The “Locanda Castelvecchio” is indisputably an institution in Verona. Overlooking the majestic 14th Century AD castle from which it gets its name, this restaurant is a tiny gem: entering the hall you will be surrounded by “Regency” style furniture, statues, mirrors and Portraits. An incredibly picturesque backyard is bringing you directly to the “Belle Époque”: spot the “Love Nest” corner at the far end of the room, ideal for a romantic date. Everything here shouts “Romance, Italy and Poetry”. The food is besides, outstanding! The waiter will articulate for you the available dishes (a traditional Italian clue that usually suggests that you will experience a succulent cuisine) and if you love meat you definitely need to try the boiled meat trolley. The “Bollito Misto with Pearà” or “Lesso e Pearà” is the royal dish of this trolley and it is indeed the most renowned “Veronese” dish: it consists of Stew w/ cuts of beef and veal, cotechino, and a whole hen or capon gently simmered for 2–3 hours in an aromatic vegetable broth served with the “Pearà” Veronese sauce, literally meaning"peppered”, made with bread crumbs, beef and hen stock, beef marrow and black pepper. Needless to say you should pair it with a bottle of “Valpolicella Classico” or “Amarone” red wine. Alternatives are always available: I took a dish of “Fettuccine” pasta and a fresh “Octopus served with Salad”. Consider spending around 50-60€ each minimum for a tasteful lunch.

An historical place, which is now a restaurant. I was there for dinner and was impressed by the interior and the high prices. The service was good, the waiter was young and showed discretion, at least he tried his best. Other guests were tourists. I ordered the vegetarian starter, which were just mixed vegetables and also served as a side dish, as well as the vegan main dish with brown rice, the same vegetables, chickpeas and walnuts. It was a laugh that in this exquisite looking restaurant they did not make any thoughts about the vegetarian dishes to make then attractive and good tasting. The chickpeas were cold and from the can. The walnuts were just put as walnuts at the side without any further preparation. I had the feeling that this place is a tourist trap.

A superb restaurant where time seems to have stood still. Yet, I think you should go if you eat meat and primarily bollito and it’s various different type of meats and cuts. This comes served with three traditional sauces, salsa verde, mostarda frescha and fresh horseradish. The waiter comes to you with his carello, literally a trolley, laden with these meats and cuts. Just go all in and get a piece of everything. If you don’t eat meat there are other options but I think you are missing out at this particular restaurant. The deserts also come on a trolley and it’s quite a feast! Service is great; especially Enzo!

Positiv: location: really nice located just in front of Castelvecchio and at the edge of the old town interio: something special, we loved it, decorated with passion for details and the history of the town but also cosy and comfortable food: delicious and well prepared traditional regional dishes. We had burrata as a starter and octopus and the meat variation as main course

Negativ: Service : Starting, they forgot to bring us plates for the greeting of the kitchen. We thought okay maybe it's a thing here to eat it like that but afterwards we saw that all the other guest got plates (we were the first in the restaurant). Then my girlfriend order a coke (expecting) and I ordered a glass of wine, she got the coke but they forgot the wine, had to ask them again for the wine after 20min. After the starter we got new silverware, and they kind of through it on the table without any order. I ordered as main dish the meat variation, normally with different sauces, they forgot the sauces. I also felt they rushed a bit with the meat plate when we were in the line, but that could also be just a feeling. After all we just didn't expect these flaws from a "high end" restaurant.

We would definitely recommend the restaurant for the good food and the nice interior but don't expect too mutch from...

Io...
