Veneto’s Osteria — Restaurant in Vicenza

Since my wife and I were only spending one night in Vicenza, we made a last-minute decision in the car to book a dinner. Based on the great rating and positive reviews, we made a reservation here.

Let me start by saying that the staff, especially the waiter, was extremely friendly – he really made an effort and absolutely deserves a tip. So the criticism is definitely not aimed at him, but at the food.

My wife and I have traveled through all of Italy except for four regions, and we feel we have a decent connection with the local cuisine. But the food at Veneto’s restaurant is far from that. It’s very mediocre food without any real flavor – while the platter with cold cuts and cheese was good, the tagliata was completely flavorless and dry, and the spaghetti with “truffles” had no taste whatsoever.

The wine was excellent, and that deserves to be mentioned as well.

In hindsight, we probably should have guessed how things were based on the fact that the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. I assume the food at the original Veneto’s location, just a street...

Good experience overall, however, you need to be careful while ordering. Staff doesn't inform you if the dish contains allergens or is really spicy. We had to order another dish as the one we ordered initially was not eatable and very very spicy. Obviously, the first one was not excluded from the check. Forget about the discount as well. Good house...

Al momento della prenotazione il locale principale era pieno e ci hanno dirottato sul secondo locale che porta lo stesso nome e dista una cinquantina di metri. L'ambiente in questo caso è abbastanza spoglio. Il personale accogliente, ma il servizio è stato la nota dolente. Abbiamo chiesto indicazioni sui piatti tipici (baccalà alla vicentina, fegato alla veneziana e trippa) che sono in menù ma la cameriera non ha saputo dirci come erano cucinati. Abbiamo chiesto 2 calici di vino e anche qui ci sono sono stati serviti senza alcuna indicazione. Fra le verdure di stagione ci hanno proposto i carciofi, che abbiamo ordinato. Ma dopo 5 minuti ci hanno detto che erano terminati... peccato che era inizio serata e oltre a noi c'era solo un altro tavolo. In sostituzione dei carciofi abbiamo ordinato un altro contorno che però non ci è mai stato servito..., ma poi lo hanno comunque segnato sul conto. Il cibo...
