We were so pleased with the food, the service and the atmosphere at il MAT. Our food was delicious and we were lucky enough to have a delightful server who did her very best to explain menu items and help us decide on the best choices for what we wanted. We enjoyed the location as it was a few steps out of the main thoroughfare and so peaceful. The music provided set the perfect mood. If we lived in Viterbo, we would dine at il MAT weekly!

MAT was one of the first places I went to eat while in Viterbo, and each dish was always well made and delicious. My italian is only mid-level, and they speak some English and were patient with us when we tried to communicate in Italian as well. The people working there were always friendly, and I even discovered my new favorite aperitivo thanks to them-- The Hugo! Definitely recommend coming here for the cacio e pepe and the tiramisu

Piccolo ristorante in un angolo tranquillo e meno battuto ma in pieno centro storico costruito all'interno delle cucine del palazzo Chigi. L'interno è molto ben decorato ma fa un po' effetto grotta. L'esterno è in una piccolissima stradina non di passaggio nella quale hanno messo tanto tavolini tra muraglioni. Molto particolare e di grande effetto la sera tutto illuminato. Allora perché 3 stelle? Perché l'ambiente è bello, il personale gentile ma non ho mangiato così bene. I piatti tradizionali erano così così, l'antipasto viterbese con salumi, formaggi locali e crostini era un piatto di salumi di non molto valore tra cui la mortadella, i formaggi locali erano 3 quadratini di un formaggio molle che magari era un pecorino così giovane dal sembrare belpaese, e i crostini erano certe di pane tostato sul quale avevano versato un goccio d'olio. Meh.. Ho preso il piatto del giorno, pollo con peperoni.. assaggiato e lasciato. Era solo pelle grassae pezzi neri amari, e come gusto assomigliava in modo sospetto a un piatto cinese. No, sulla cucina devono lavorare. Conto più alto della media. Location bella però.

My partner and I absolutely adore this restaurant. It is one of our all time favourites from all of our travels! The attention to detail on all fronts is what makes it so special and soulful! The quality of the food and wine is exceptional, the decor is stylish and the atmosphere is wonderful. The service is also exceptional and you can tell that the owner Mauro is a master of his craft! We really recommend visiting if you are anywhere near Viterbo. We can’t wait to return!...
