Mizuno is another long established ramen shop in Asahikawa that is famed for their ginger ramen. It is located next to Tokiwa Park just off the roundabout.

Without a doubt, the star of the dish is definitely the soup, which has a generous teaspoon of ginger from Kochi Prefecture added. The ginger, shoyu and pork broth all blend together harmoniously, creating a very complex tasty soup with a hue character. The addition of ginger adds a refreshing lightness, and he subtle spiciness from the soup feels very warm and comforting.

Another reason why I also love the soup is because it’s to overly salty and isn’t loaded with msg, making you feel thirsty afterwards.

Unfortunately the char siew and noodles were not as appetising. The char siew was very dry, tough and extremely salty. It tasted like corned beef for some weird reason. The noodles, though smooth and has a nice chewy texture, had a strong ammonia smell, probably due to too much lye being used in the noodles.

Mizuno probably has the best tasting soup in Asahikawa. However it is ruined by the unappealing char siew and noodles. And sadly because of that, I’m only Ble to...

Very clean tasting soy & ginger soup base - perfect balance of spicy was from ginger and saltiness from the soy sauce. Can see bits of grated ginger in the soup. Mouth felt clean and not greasy at all afterwards. Also had the miso (they use white miso from Hokkaido) which was also very clean and light taste compared to the usual red miso. Only ¥700 each bowl. Ramen noodles cooked just right. Only seats about 22 people in the shop. You can see the years of history at this store run by an old couple. Supremely...
