I searched for the best sushi in Atami and I bumped into this place but got disappointed.

I live in Tokyo so I know we are blessed with So many great sushi restaurants so I got even more disappointed.

Awajima is kmownto be a 3 generations sushi restaurant in Atami. The welcoming of the lady was first of all kind of rude, we were 10 min late …. Second of all my girls and I were served with Oshibori heat was really stinky that probably has soaked too long or not washed…

The sushi we are was the best course (Tokujo) that was recommended (¥2900) and we took a umeshu.

The uneshu was very light and has no taste though we chose the local Atami umeshu … as for the taste of sushi, the fish was good but the portions was TOO BIG ans lacking of delicacy and too much SUJI (fish threads ). Very chewy. You had to have two bites … maybe foreign size …??!! But we didn’t like it.

Owners sushi makers were constantly yelling and stressing about customers wanting to enter and not enough seating so made us feel guilty of seating…not relaxing to eat….

The restaurant has one bar counter for 6 people and two tables of 4.

I expected better from a good authentic sushi place. It was overpriced for what is was. Disappointing. Cannot recommend. By the way they do not...

You can eat authentic Sushi cuisine. the freshness of fishes are totally different from big City, like Tokyo/Osaka. For foreign tourists, they have an English menu. However, all staff are not able to speak English. When you visit Atami, you should experience this cuisine. I believe 特上寿司(deluxe Sushi), the most expensive one, would be the best one in here. Hence if you can't understand Japanese, just say "Tokujo - Sushi wo Onegaishimasu"(it means "Could I take Tokujo Sushi?"). As of 2024.July, the price is $30. Take note that you can use...
