Very cool place to cook eggs in onsen water. The sake shop across the street sells eggs and salt packets (60 yen per egg and 10 yen for salt). There is a place to submerge the eggs in hot water or two places to steam them. The shop keeper recommended 10 minutes in the steamer place, but I did 9 min 30 sec. They were delicious and slightly jammy in the center. If I were to do it again I’d do 9 min and 15 seconds. When finished, there is a tap to rinse them in cold water to stop the cooking process.

The locals like the onsen cooked eggs because the onsen water imparts flavors into the cooked...

熱海七湯 小沢の湯。熱海七湯めぐりというのがある。入浴施設と思ったら温泉があった場所が名所みたいになってるだけでした。その中の１つがこの小沢の湯。ここは重い白い。温泉の湯気がでていて、誰かが管理しているわけでもなく、蒸気がでていて、釜があって、水道蛇口があるだけです。その蒸気でみんなが温泉卵を作っています。ゆで卵以外の料理は禁止されているようです。人が次々と来て、温泉卵を作って食べては帰っていく。 ２つ釜がありました。夜に通ったら、地元のオジサンが10個ぐらい作っていました。立ち話していると、「かた茹でなら12分ぐらいかな。半熟にするなら8分ぐらい。だけど、最近温度が下がってる気がするんだよな。俺は固茹でが好きだけど、半熟のほうが栄養があるらしいぜ」と言っていた。 卵を持ってなかったので、次の日にスーパーで６個入りの卵を買ってまた行った。家で半熟卵を作る時は８分でやってる。だから、２個８分で出して、４個は10分で取り出した。８分のゆで卵を1個食べたらゆるゆるだった。10分の温泉卵もあんまり変わらずやわらかった。だから、残りの４個はまた４分入れた。そしたら、ちょい固めのゆで卵になった。中はほぼカチカチ。別の隣の人が９分でやっていたが、やっぱりドロドロだった。硫黄の匂いがすごい温泉地もあるけど熱海の温泉は匂いはあんまりない。だから、ゆで卵も結構普通。だけど、こういう体験は楽しい。塩を持参したほうがいい。行政が卵と塩の自動販売機を設置したらいいと思いました。ちなみに、2023年7月にリニューアルされて、蒸し釜が２つになったそうです。来た人が、「あ、釜が２つになっている！」って驚いていました。
