Papa's Chicken is another quasi-hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away at the far end of Araha-Beach! This is a clear passion-project location by folks who love Chicken and Caribbean style Chicken, and do a phenomenal job recreating fresh, moist, and tender chicken for everyone!
The chicken currently being served is all breast-meat based, but is still incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful. Their tenders are juicy and fried well--their style isn't so much "crunchy" fried chicken but rather a nice soft batter that has a basic salt-pepper seasoning. They are not overly oily or greasy, but have that great fried chicken taste while focusing on being gentle on your teeth. They have different spice/heat levels of their chicken--the Hot Chicken is a dry-rub that is more reminiscent of Cayenne Pepper or the Japanese 7-Layer spice packets. It's hot but not overly so, though you can definitely increase that for extra yen.
The Chicken Sandwich is two larger chicken tenders layered inbetween a single slice of American cheese, red cabbage coleslaw, and a squishy soft bun. Their sauce that is on it has a very nice layer of heat and spice that builds on itself with each bite. The sauce is a tad watery, but is incredibly flavorful--I would recommend ordering a side of the sauce to dip the sandwich in! The chicken was hand breaded, and had a nice light crunch to it, but without overpowering the chicken. This was a very traditional, solid, and inoffensive Chicken Sandwich. It reminded me of what I think of as an ideal large fried chicken sandwich--the two breast tenders are just enough meat with the size of the bun to make it a great meat-to-carb ratio. It's hard to find anything unpleasant or wrong about the sandwich itself!
The Brown Stew Chicken is a great attempt and recreation of Caribbean style chicken. An incredibly tender chicken leg and thigh, it literally fell off the bone as I used my fork! The dry rub has a hint of heat/spice, not overpowering but just enough to remind that it's there. The stew is a nice light broth with multiple spices, a sweet tang, and a mellow aftertaste—it paired nicely with the mild flavors of the chicken. This would be excellent as part of their bean and rice combo (B-Plate)!
I also tried their Virgin Pina Colada, which was quite tasty! It was about 12 oz and was cream based while being mixed with some 100% fruit juices. The presentation was excellent, as it came with fresh whipped cream, a pineapple wedge, and a sprig of mint! It was a fun and delicious pairing with the chicken meals.
Again, this is a clear passion-project restaurant that is run deliciously by everyone who works there. The chicken is made fresh right as you order it, and you can tell the work that they each put into making the food and the experience tasty and enjoyable for everyone who comes in! The staff is incredibly friendly, polite, fun, and enjoyable to be around! They care deeply about their product and their customers. They have both take-out and dine-in, and while the take-out is fast, everything is still hand-made so it takes a few moments to make your meal. The inside of the restaurant is a nice old school wood vibe with a bar, a large circular poker table, driftwood bar, sofas, and a full service bar. Can fit about 15 people total inside. The staff speaks English well too, and it's a very delicious and fun place to get some quick delicious fried chicken!

Read moreThere are multiple reasons why a restaurant receives repeat business and this quaint little spot named Chicken&Papa has received a new guest today. Let's start out with the service: I felt invited and welcomed by the girl at the cashier the moment I walked up, sweet smile and very helpful, She recommended the F plate I had for lunch today and it was definitely a great choice. Next up the food itself: The chicken was made fresh, the breading was nice and crispy, and it had just enough moisture, it came with a tasty dipping sauce and macroni salad. The drink option has a few softdrinks and a few cocktails which simplified the choice for the drink which is just fine as well. The F plate made for a very delightful meal and for about 1200¥ it was worth it. Moving on to location, it's a very short walk from the beach and was in a quiet area here for lunch time, the weather was nice so I sat outside today. Ultimately great food and great service definitely prevailed here in the small chicken spot and I definitely recommend it for a quick tasty bite. Definitely...
Read moreIt's easy to sell a chicken sandwich. Every restaurant at every corner seems to sell them, and consumers continue to buy them.
But how does a restaurant achieve the impossible? How does a restaurant sell an almost perfect chicken sandwich? I don't know the answer to that, but Chicken&Papa does. The Chicken sandwich is amazing. In fact, close to the best that I've ever had. The chicken is perfectly breaded and fried, the buns are lightly toasted, the red onions are a nice touch, the sandwich comes out piping hot, and they use a homemade sauce that brings it all together. The drinks are also fantastic.
When you first walk in, there's nothing about the atmosphere that immediately blows you away. They furniture is temporary but worn down, the seating is limited and quirky, and the walls are covered in arrays of decor from all parts of the world. In fact, the place feels about as close to a Cuban cigar lounge as you can get in Okinawa. Everything I described is a good thing. It makes the whole place a genuinely interesting and...
