Hubby was craving burgers, so we got in the car and drove down to Chatan for a place that has been on my foodie hit list: Sandbox burgers（サンドボックス）. Upon arriving, we first had to realize that it was upstairs. 🤦‍♀️ But once we got inside, we were greeted with a lovely calm atmosphere, the smell of burgers, and a giant language friendly touchscreen. Ordering was super easy. After showing our receipt to the lady behind the bar, hubby got a glass for his soft drink. I got a beer. The beer selections were pretty diverse, and I was happy with my selection. I was also tempted by a craft beer can case to take home a beverage.

Burgers: Sooooooo delicious! I ordered the classic sandbox. Usually not a fan of sauce, the sauce added a fun kick that I rather enjoyed. The avocado cooled it down so my mouth wasn't on fire. The bacon added more flavor. But goodness, that burger was killer! You could taste that it was fresh! The bun was also on point: soft without disintegrating under the weight of holding in all the ingredients. Hubby loved his double cheeseburger. It hit the craving. He thought the pickles were a cute addition. He said it was the perfect balance between not dripping in fat and not being dry. The condiments (ketchup and mustard) helped complete his meal.

Fries: crispy and good. My garlic parmesan were a tad too salty, but hubby's fries were perfection.

Service: excellent - the staff were super friendly and efficient. They bussed tables quickly after diners left, allowing for new arrivals to grab a seat without waiting.

Truly a great burger! The chef is a true craftsman utilizing a charcoal grill and “never frozen patties.” And what a great beef combination! Read the sign… After the first bite, I could tell the chef really puts his heart into his craft. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Can I say it’s the best ever? Well, that would just be cruel to all the other great “next level” burgers out there. They are all great! Yes, to me this is a next level burger, clean and simple, in its own special way. It’s a little keen on the Japanese palate, so that means this may taste less oily to our North American brothers and sisters out there, but it never disappoints. Yet, the family loved them so much, we ate here twice on our trip, and three out of the four of us had two each both times lol… The server said that these burgers sometimes run out so get em while you can. And it was true! We almost felt guilty as we saw her tell a few customers that came after us that the burgers were all sold out! So, I’d come here early if I were you.
