Mihama American Village in Okinawa is a vibrant entertainment complex that offers a unique blend of American culture and Okinawan charm. Located in central Okinawa, it's a popular destination for both locals and tourists, especially those affiliated with the nearby American military bases.

Explore Depot Island, which features over 100 stores and restaurants, offering a wide range of American and local products at affordable prices.

Enjoy classic American fare like hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as Okinawan-American favorites like A&W root beer.

Take a stroll along Sunset Beach, a picturesque spot to watch the sunset and enjoy barbecues by the waterfront.

To get there, take bus number 28 or 29 from Naha Bus Terminal, which takes about 40 minutes. By car, it's approximately 30 minutes from central Naha. I joined in a Klook tour to avoid all these hassles since I learned commuting is not that easy outside Naha.

Most shops and restaurants are open from 11:00 to 21:00, with restaurants staying open until around 23:00. Parking is available, with options behind Depot Island and in front of the Sega arcade, mostly free and accessible.

While the central area is filled with flashy shops, big chains, and photo spots, if you wander toward the seaside or walk along the outer streets, you’ll find a totally different vibe—small local eateries, cozy seaside cafes, and even some roadside stalls selling authentic Okinawan-style grilled steak or ramen.

One of my favorite experiences was having a quiet meal at a tiny seaside diner, away from the crowds, enjoying freshly grilled steak while watching the waves. The vibe here is more local, relaxed, and feels far from the typical tourist route. Walking along the coastal path around sunset is also beautiful, with fewer people and a more intimate Okinawan feel.
