Tucked away in Fujiyoshida, this converted residential home operates as one of the most authentic sushi experiences you’ll find in the region. The restaurant is run by what appears to be an elderly grandmother and grandfather team who embody traditional Japanese hospitality at its finest. When I arrived during their afternoon break between lunch and dinner service, they graciously welcomed me in rather than turning me away, immediately setting the tone for an exceptional experience.

The kaisendon I ordered showcased incredibly fresh, high-quality seafood that clearly demonstrated their commitment to sourcing the best ingredients. Each piece of fish was perfectly cut and seasoned, accompanied by thoughtfully prepared side dishes that complemented the main bowl beautifully. The variety of seafood included premium selections that felt both nutritious and indulgent, creating that perfect balance of healthy satisfaction that great Japanese cuisine achieves.

The meal was so delicious that I found myself eating with complete focus, savoring every bite while unconsciously devouring everything without leaving even a grain of rice. The freshness of the ingredients was so pronounced that each bite felt clean and vibrant, a testament to their daily sourcing and preparation standards.

We stumbled upon this restaurant on our walk back from Chureito Pagoda to Lake Kawaguchiko and what an amazing surprise!

It was 1pm, we were tired and hungry and not looking for the 1h walk that awaited us when this place showed up and we decided to give it a go.

With a very discreet entrance that makes the restaurant look closed, we were welcomed warmly and lead to our seats. Amazing atmosphere of a traditional japanese restaurant and the corresponding service.

The owners did not speak english but with some pointing and gestures we all understood each other and ordered our food.

I got the Jyo Chirashi-sushi (upper) and my boyfriend chose the Tyu-sushi (middle). Both were amazing but my chirashi was unforgettable. We had this meal on the 3rd day of our 2 week long vacation and i have yet to find such amazing fish and seafood. I was most surprised by the squid which was so velvety, the shrimp which was so sweet and delicate and the ark shell too!

We came across this traditional Japanese restaurant almost by accident on a rainy day in Kawaguchi. The place looks exactly like what you would expect from a Japanese restaurant. Seating is on the floor, the rice paper doors and Japanese art on the walls. The restaurant is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, far from crowded tourist attractions.
