About a month ago. I discovered this little place on my random exploration of Fukuoka trip. And was attracted by this unique cute cafe. I was actually thinking of just grabbing a coffee, but once I got into the cafe, I got too obsessed with its characteristic interior, and the lady (probably the owner) was taking a nap during that off peak hours as she might had an exhausting busy lunch, and I felt really bad to wake her up just for a coffee, so I decided to sit down and have something to eat.
I ordered a curry dish with beef croquettes (wasn't sure what I ordered before it came out thanks to the incomplete, partially Google translation), the portion was so huge that I could not finish it all! And it was very yummy! I spent a little time enjoying the coffee at the end in the ambiance. When I left, I told the lady (through translation) that the meal was very delicious and I felt sorry that I had some leftover because I could not finish the dish by myself. Somehow the lady kept apologizing to me which left me questioning! I was the one who should apologize because I wasted the food!
After that, I asked my Japanese friends and they said it's because, in their tradition, the chef should serve the "just right" portion to a customer, just enough to finish, not too much or less, otherwise their profession would be in doubt.
To owner/ chef! My apologies for my ignorance! I should have studied the culture more before traveling and action! You probably don't remember already but I didn't mean to upset you that time! Next time if I travel to Fuoka again, I definitely will come back and show my respect to chef finishing everything...
