Don Quijote Nakasu — Local services in Fukuoka

This Don Quijote branch has two floors. It's not as big as Mega Donki, but it has the basic food, skincare, electronic, and travel gift essentials you need.

This branch is located inside a mall. The first floor is where the skincare, make-up, toys, and gadgets can be found. The second floor contains food, medicine, and other accessories and stationery. Donki store doesn’t have an escalator or lift, so if you want to go to the second floor, you need to ask the staff’s assistance to bring the items you picked on the first floor. You are not allowed to get it yourself as you need to go out of the store and use mall escalators or elevators.

The store was still organized when I arrived, as I opted to shop early in the morning. The staff has different personalities (some are accommodating, some are not so friendly), but overall they are all professionals. I also want to commend the Filipino lady who patiently assisted me when I couldn’t find some items on my list.

Tip: if you want to avoid the long line at the free counter, I suggest shopping during off hours. I was there around 6:30-7:00 am, and I had the whole place to myself. The people started to arrive around...

Had a very pleasant experience here. Shop is well-organised and has a wide selection (even more than the Tenjin Honten if I were to say).

But what made me write this review is because of the superb customer service byギリ (counter 3, on 13 December, 00:54AM). It was midnight and there were many people queuing for the tax-refund. However ギリwas very patient and did not rush through the checkout process.

Because we brought liquor, we were afraid that the packing would have been inadequate such that the glass bottle would be at risk of breaking. But ギリ took initiative to seal it in a bag on their own, even without us requesting. Then he guided us through the process of claiming the 5% additional discount we didn’t even know we were eligible for. Lastly, he even gave us this flyer about reaching out to Don Quijote if there were any issues with the purchase. never would have imagined this existed because I literally never received it over the 10+ Don Quijotes I’ve been to.

I went on 19 June 2019. The store has got massive different types of goods, from beauty products to snacks and clothing n bags. But because there is also a vast number of tourists shopping there, the goods can be a bit messy and difficult to find. However, the price is reasonable and I must say despite the number of tourists, all the staff I encountered remain respectful and sincere! I have come across many staff who are wary or unfriendly to tourists in Japan; some even pass rude remarks thinking tourists do not understand. One senior lady cashier who helped me with my payment is patient with me paying in coins twice and remains very friendly and cheerful. I am grateful and impressed with the professionalism displayed by her! I will still go back to shop if I am in Hakata. A word of caution is do not use the washroom in the building.
