8 years ago, my wife and I were wandering around Goryokaku after exploring the fort, and we came a across this wonderful looking steak restaurant in the vicinity. We tried it and loved it! It was a steady stream of customers, so it was a testament of its popularity. We’d been in Japan for 2 weeks and having a change of diet was a great idea with Hige.
Last night, I was walking back from Daimon Yokocho and I saw another Hige near the Hakodate train station. Decided to pop in the next day to reminisce over lunch and it did not disappoint. I’d ordered the 100g ribeye with hamburg steak. The steak was so tender even though it was cooked through, and the hamburg steak was juicy.
Had a chance to chat with the staff in my limited Japanese and I found out that the Goryokaku store had closed and they opened this one on the Ekimae area, while opening another one in Sapporo, where the chef (in the picture) has gone over to head up the Sapporo branch. I’m so glad to see the place doing well. Keep it up...
Read moreI don't care what anyone says, the Japanese have perfected the Hamburg steak and this place here serves one of the best I've ever had in Japan.
I understand why many tourists who come here order a wagyu steak, but trust me, you want a Hamburg steak.
I just don't get why the Japanese always add a side of pasta. It's a bad fit and usually not good pasta either. Japanese white rice works way better (and is available as a paid side, of course).
Staff was friendly, but not as attentative than what I came to expect in Japan. First time I was lucky and caught her when she served something, but to get dessert I had to call out loudly three times (lucky the first floor became almost deserted in the meantime). Somehow staring at how the cook is cooking the food is more interesting than serving their...
Read moreStumbled upon this place, so by pure chance we decided to dine here; best decision by far. They offer various sets and courses, with all kinds of steaks and burgers. A lot of side dishes and garnishes as well.
We made our choice: chateaubriand, 150gram. Some side orders of rice, chips, and cheddar. The steak was very tender, needing next to no effort to cut it. The chef definitely knows how to cook.
Service was great, we ordered in Japanese, but English was available in both menu and by our waiter. Quick, kind, and efficient; our order was served very quickly.
If you're looking for a delicious steak, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend visiting the restaurant; easy 5/5 stars in...
