We decided to come here for a late lunch when we arrived in Hakodate based on all the great reviews we read here and we were not disappointed.
The restaurant had a cosy, unassuming atmosphere (a pleasant contrast to the streets outside where vendors constantly call out to you).
We were hoping to try the famed Kaisendon and Ika sashimi but unfortunately were told they had no sashimi left… until the owner came back and told us they had a small portion of squid and scallop left if we were happy to combine them.
The food was homey and delicious. The owners did not charge us extra for the scallop either.
We had such a pleasant experience that we decided to return the next day to see if their stock of sashimi had been replenished. Unfortunately the answer was still no but the female owner personally walked us over to the morning market to introduce us to a vendor who could give us what we wanted.

Read moreWe stumbled upon this shop on a really cold and snowy day. Barely anybody outside so we didn’t get to see other shops trying to lure tourists in. But not many shops were open either.
I had the Asaichi noodle - it was giant. They’d let you to take a picture and then bring the crab back to the kitchen to cut it open for you.
It looked like an old couple own the shop and they were really really nice.
