Came in at 12:45 on a Friday. The restaurant was half full of locals, mostly salarymen on their lunch break. I was seated immediately and ordered the Shio Ramen and the Shumai.
The ramen is delicious, it’s a light and delicate yet hearty salt flavor. I’ve had ramen up and down all over Japan for the last two years and shio ramen often doesn’t satisfy me, however this was a great bowl. I’m not going to tell you it’s the best Shio ramen ever, but it’s the best Shio ramen I’ve ever had (I also just got to Hakodate 15 min before this meal, this is my first Shio in Hakodate).
At one point I added some of the black pepper to the bowl, which it didn’t need, but went together perfectly.
The chashu is leaner pork and not super fatty and tender. But it isn’t dry, and it isn’t tough. This is pretty standard chashu in a more Chinese style ramen. I liked it!
The shumai are actually phenomenal, I was really impressed. Very meaty and moist with great flavor. I urge you to order the shumai if you dine here.
Also, if you’re solo (like I was) don’t miss the teishoku. They offer a set meal of Shio ramen, a small bowl of rice, 3 shumai, and what I believe are some pickles. It’s 1170 yen. I didn’t see this until I overheard someone say teishoku so I checked the menu. My Shio ramen (710 yen) + one order of Shumai (5 pcs, 750 yen) came out to 1460.
While not a huge difference in price, I think I would have just preferred three Shumai. They’re super delicious but I didn’t need all of that food lol.
Overall the food isn’t very heavy, so even though I ate everything I feel fine to go walk around, not bloated and sick like I just faced a hakata tonkotsu / butter corn miso and 5 gyoza.
Anyway the food here is good, it might not be everyone’s favorite, but if anyone gives a one star review they’re either having a bad day or they just don’t get...

Very good local “shio” (salt) ramen place. Fairly low key and a bit aged, but a very good experience. Their ramen is delicious, as is their shoumai, chashao (bbq pork) and deep fried pork (similar to zengi, but pork, not chicken).
Service is fast, so you’re in and...
Read moreWent in 2 hours before closing on a Saturday night. Wasn't informed that half the menu was not available until we were placing our order. Most of the noodle soup ran out for the day, so we were only able to order shio (salt) flavor. The noodles and meat were bland. Shumai was surprisingly decent. Was still hungry after. Literally go anywhere else...
