Tsutsuiken — Restaurant in Hakodate

We went here on a very cold, snowy and windy afternoon. It is a small set up with about 10-11 seats (this includes 3 tables that can seat 6 people) and rest are counter top chairs.

We ordered the bean sprouts shio ramen, the spicy miso ramen and the spicy fried rice. Everything was delicious. The miso ramen came with nice block of butter and corn.

What was most surprising is that this place was being run by one person and was he a one man army! And he churned out some lip smacking food. RESPECT. I think one of the staff was out that day and the owner had put up a sign outside to notify customers and adjust expectations of the wait time accordingly as the service was obviously slower. We waited outside in the chilling wind for about 15minutes and then probably another 20 minutes for the food. If you are the first in waiting queue, pop your head inside so that the doorbell rings and the owner knows that you are waiting. If there are people ahead of you, the owner will take note of you when he comes to seat the waiting guests.

All in all, we had some delicious and hearty ramen. I would return, irrespective of 1 or many...

I had the Spicy Onion Miso Ramen. I ordered an egg and butter as well. It comes with lots of grilled onion, fresh onion, I think a small garnish like saffron, a small amount of minced pork, and 1 piece of pork. The grilled onions add a very hearty and earthy flavor to the ramen. The spicy is not too strong and you only just notice it. The egg is at the last stage of soft boiled and very smoky in flavor. Jan 16, 18:00 went to a few famous restaurants like Asari Honten and Ryotei Fumoto but when we reached there, the owners will say that they are full and required making reservations prior arriving there. Disappointed and we had no choice but to canvas elsewhere near to our hotel and Hakodate Train Station.

We found this small by the corner ramen stall at 19:30, it was really small and cosy place for us. But when we placed our orders and the food came, it was way better than other Googlers reccomended. We spend approx. 3380yen and I would reccomend for others to come here for a simple dinner yet...
