We came to Garlic after doing the day hike to the mountain lodge at Hakuba-Dake, so we showed up with an appetite. First thing you notice is the unusual decor and location, like something from the set of Twin Peaks. We got appetizers and salads, as well as very tall beers. Service was in no major rush, not a big deal but a little slow. After an appetizer and salad, we ordered a large pizza which was very tasty, but we were still hungry so we ordered another. The salads and app were pretty standard fare, nothing to write home about, and the pizzas were good but a little small. Overall the price comes out pretty high for what you get. Also, the glass of wine one of my friends ordered was pretty sour, I think it had been out a few days...it's a pretty interesting place - cool location, odd ambience, pretty decent food. Read moreI am not sure why I am surprised to see Italian food of this quality here? One night in June we ordered the carbonara, and pescatore (white and red). All three dishes were fantastic. We were in Hakuba for three nights, and I wished we had gone back on night two or three. The table wine (red) was fine for the meal.
The cabin itself was so cool and funky! Decorated uniquely. Again, wished we came back on another night!
