While exploring the beautiful island of Miyajima—after a short ferry ride from Hiroshima—I stumbled upon Yakigaki no Hayashi, a restaurant famed for its oysters. The long line outside already hinted that I was in for something special. I ordered a set meal that let me try oysters prepared three ways: fresh, grilled, and tempura. Each one was excellent, but the grilled oysters truly surprised me. In my past experiences elsewhere, grilled oysters were often dry or lackluster—but here, because the oysters were huge, juicy, and fresh, grilling only enhanced their flavor. It was one of the highlights of my meal. Of course, the fresh oysters were a classic—bright, clean, and tasting of the sea. And the tempura oysters were another delight: lightly battered, crisp, and expertly fried, as you would expect from Japanese tempura masters. I also tried their eel, which was tender and flavorful—a great addition to the meal. Between the incredible food, the bustling but cozy atmosphere, and the charm of Miyajima itself, Yakigaki no Hayashi made for an unforgettable stop. Highly recommended if you ever find yourself visiting this beautiful island.

During my visit to Yakigaki No Hayashi, I encountered a queue at this restaurant during Tuesday lunchtime. However, the waiting time was surprisingly short, allowing me to quickly indulge in the culinary delights that awaited. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the raw oysters. They were simply fantastic—fresh, plump, and bursting with flavor. The oyster don, a rice bowl topped with succulent oysters, was equally delightful and left me craving for more. It's worth noting that there is a difference between the Japanese menu and the English menu. The English menu tends to feature more expensive sets, while the Japanese menu offers a wider range of options, including more affordable choices. It appears that the intention is to encourage patrons to opt for the higher-priced sets. Nevertheless, despite the difference in menus, the overall quality and taste of the food were exceptional.

Had the raw/fried oyster set with oyster rice and it was absolutely delicious. I originally ordered the 4pc raw oyster but it was so delicious I ordered 2 more a la carte. They were so fresh and the lemon and ponzu sauce complimented the oysters so well. No sandy/gritty texture in them at all. My second favorite thing was the fried oysters. Perfectly battered and crispy, great meaty firm texture and the mayo/ketchup sauce on side went great together. I think the oyster rice was nothing to write home about, glad I got to try it but I wish I subbed it for the conger eel rice to have been able to try another popular Miyajima dish. Dined here around 2:30pm on a weekend and there was a pretty short line, only had to wait maybe 5min to get seated. They take cash and card.

In no exaggeration, the fresh oysters are the best I've tasted in the whole of Japan (let alone Hiroshima). I was told beforehand by a local that Miyajima has very fresh oysters and the trip here certainly did not disappoint. Maybe it's the oyster season in Feb so the prices were really value for money. We had 4 fresh oysters for 1400 yen, and 5 grilled for the same price. Will be back here in a heartbeat if I'm back in Hiroshima again. Thank you! In case you are wondering, they have English menu, has a big space inside and have a few servers who can speak Mandarin if that helps. This place is cash only, which was a tad disappointing since you can't really splurge if you don't carry much cash around

Visited early November on a long weekend, Saturday afternoon. No queues and no delays being seated - food arrived very quick. Although this may be due to the rainy weather. We were quite impressed with the food, being Australian we have pretty good seafood back home but the oysters here were fantastic. Bigger than ours, clean and tasty, highly rated! Staff were prompt and polite, prices weren't unreasonable albeit average for the Hiroshima area due to tourism I guess. Compared to other local restaurants, they were slightly cheaper on some things, and when combined with the reviews made it an easy decision to eat here.

One of the best spots on the island to have the famous miyajima oysters. Expect a queue has this place is really popular with locals and tourist. You get to choose from a range of oysters farmed to different ages 1 - 3 year old oysters and they pretty much do everything with these oysters, grilled, baked, raw, dried, cured, steamed. The freshest possible Fat juicy plump miyajima oysters you can possibly get anywhere. Service is quick and efficient, the food comes quick to keep the constant crowd moving. A definite must go when your on the island to load up before the trek up the mountain.
