Rokai Bune (Roaring Boat) — Attraction in Hatsukaichi

Highly recommended 20 minutes boat tour leaving from besides first Torii gate. Unfortunately the famous Torii gate in the ocean is under renovation till around 2023, however, the tour is still recommended for following reasons; The boat is authentic man-powered one. It is extremely rare to find similar tour in Japan. In old days, this was how people visited Itsukushima Shrine. You can time travel and experience how people visited shrine until a few hundred years ago. It is fully guided (Japanese only) tour. The guide explained history and background of the island and shrine. You get to see the Torii gate up front. The the renovation is over, you can even go through the gate. It costs JPY 1,000 yen only! 海に浮かぶ厳島神社への参拝は、正式には舟で鳥居を潜って厳島神社へ向かうのだそうです。 エンジンの無いろかい舟だけが許されるのだとか。 参詣中は静かな瀬戸内の波音と櫓を漕ぐ音が小気味良い。 料金は普通の観光地値段に比べればかなり安いと思います。因みに体験で櫓を漕ぐ事も出来ます。 今回は大鳥居が70年に一度の工事中の為に大鳥居を潜れませんでしたが、逆に珍しい時に伺えました。
