Katsu Tei Iroha — Restaurant in Hikone

Great Omi roast beef topped with raw egg yolk and some soy-based sauce, over rice with some dry seaweed. Maybe I missed some seasoning and I expected a bit fattier meat, but overall great quality and very enjoyable. It perfectly matched with the wasabi. The meat was obviously fresh and of great quality as the eating area is right next to the butchery shop, where you can see the different parts at sell. A proof that this is a busy spot was the waiting line (around 30 minutes) and the list outdoors where you must write your name while waiting. Both counter seats and tatami style eating area are available, although I couldn’t choose. Omi beef is not a cheap meal (2.000 ¥) but the amount of meat provided is correct. We stopped by Hikone for the Castle, but ended up here instead when looking for an affordable place to eat Omi Beef. There were 5 of us - we ordered all the Omi Beef dishes (and 2 gyukatsu). It might seem pricy compared to other items on the menu but oh so worth it and value for money. The beef has a great mouthfeel, juicy and tender.

We reached at 1130 on the dot - all the parking lots are full already (the restaurant reserved some lots on the parking space across the street) and there were 8 groups ahead of us. We went in at 1215. If you have some time to kill, the wait is worth it.

There is an English menu. The ladies are considerate and brought a translation device to explain that the gyukatsu is to be eaten with 2 types of sauces.

Highly highly recommended. Can't be happier that this us our first meal...

お味噌汁が、これまた めちゃくちゃ美味しい それと もう一つ、卓上に置いてあるドレッシングが、これまた ものごっつ美味しい 特に、サウザンアイランド系のドレッシング！ これは 絶品 です

付け合わせの野菜に添えてある、ハムも美味しい これも、精肉店であるお店の手作りの品だそうです もっと沢山 食べたくなってしまいます 店頭で販売されている 近江牛ミンチカツ(※ メンチカツではない) や 近江牛コロッケ も、とても美味しいですよ
