I met the owner at another bar, he seemed cool and enticed me with promises of authentic bbq style food - let's just say, my only regret was not going to his restaurant sooner, I entirely scarfed down the jack daniel wings and bbq bacon burger with fries. When going to Japan, I was on the search for great Japanese food, but found amazing western food instead. The wings were so flavorful and juicy with the hint of Jack Daniels tickling my tastebuds that I couldn't stop eating. I felt like that critic from ratatouille who had a flash back to his childhood. I had never had wings that good outside of the US before. The burger wasn't the best I've ever had, to be honest, but it was still absolutely delicious, and finding the best burgers is one of my life's little goals as I travel around. I think that's just chalked up to what local ingredients can be secured in Japan, since Japanese burgers and bacon in general are wildly different from American beef and bacon. The bread however was heated properly, so it was firm on the outside yet a little crunchy on the inside with the first bite. The fries were just excellent, I needed to salt them myself a little more, but otherwise fantastic fries, would order them as a snack any day.
Overall, go to this place, please. Don't be like me and wait till the day before you leave Hiroshima. I was promised a quality BBQ meal, and I got it alright. Also the staff overall are very friendly and speak English well, had a delightful conversation and round of shots with them. P.S: Please open a spot in NYC, I gotta have those...
Read moreSo I found a Gaijin bar located on the street between my job and my apartment so I decided to drop by. I had originally wanted to stay and eat but stead I grabbed a Chicago pie to go. But that aside, let me start off by describing this place as a dive bar full of westerners. It’s nice to see a place where I can find I need to be around other English speakers. Looks like they have a location in Iwakuni and on the Iwakuni base as well.
The decor was typical of an old school American roadhouse complete with a portable, sports TVs and a stage on the corner for live music. I have to gather most folks here are tourist, but there probably a few of us living here as well.
The pie ran me ¥2100 with an additional extra ¥150 to go charge. I suppose it’s not a true Chicago deep dish as it cooked on only 20 minutes, but I was fine with that. I was a bit disappointed because I ordered a smoked chicken and I got the smoked sausage, but I didn’t know that till I got home. As it general rule of thumb, I don’t particularly care for sausage. Looking at the receipt it was entered as sausage and I just didn’t catch it because my Japanese isn’t that good.
That little hiccup aside, I’m still planning on coming back and trying some more food especially the burgers and some beers. Plus the owner is like really super chill so, I’ll be back. Plus, I really wanna try a good burger and hear some live music and such and the owner knows the cat café owner...
Read moreIf you are from North America and would like a little taste of home after being in Japan for a bit, this is the place for you. Lots of burgers and such. We had two burgers with fries and salad. If I was here for another month I would have tried the brisket. The burgers were good, but the patties looked fresh out of the frozen burger box. They were good. Fries were really good. Salad was good too. Service was good. Our server was also managing a private group in the back room, so I can't say excellent. I will say the wasabi ale I had was good. A different taste, but I would try it again. My wife had two sours, and enjoyed those. I also had a Japanese beer. The BBQ Bacon burger was good. But if you are a must have crispy bacon person, as some people I know are, this will not be for you. The BBQ sauce was closer to McDonald's special sauce with BBQ mixed in than a true US tomato based BBQ sauce. Overall it fit our mood for the night. There were a lot of not Japanese people there when we ate. It felt more like a place in not USA, but not Japan. Would I be back? Not this trip. But maybe some other time, if the...
