We went to this place on our last day in Hiroshima. It was a Saturday, it was packed with locals, this reassured us, as my partner doesn't like restaurants aimed at tourists. He also is very picky when it comes to sushi, whether it is inside or outside Japan.
If it wouldn't have been our last day in Hiroshima, we would have definitely come back at this restaurant. Is it the best sushi in Japan? No, but you'll need to pay ¥20,000 and go to a Michelin restaurant for this. Is it good? Absolutely! Is it good value for money? I definitely think so!
If you're looking for a taste of Japan, get nigiri or maki with the fresh fish of the day. We got that. It was great!
They also have a sushi-set if you don't want to think about it. My partner and I don't particularly care for sea urshin and fish roe, so we skipped that option and went for some nigiri and maki à la carte.
They have everything, thuna, yellow tail, sea bass, salmon, ... Its amazing! You can also get them grilled with a flame torch if you want! It was delicious!
If you're European like us, and if come with kids, which was not our case, they have an affordable set of 5 pieces of sushi with only salmon. In my experience, european children are only used to raw salmon, so this is a great option for parents traveling, in my opinion.
We also treated ourselves to the fatty tuna belly sushi (known as "otoro"), it was melting in the mouth like eating butter... It was a delight! Of course, these are rightfully coming in one piece which is around ¥800, if I remember correctly. But, if you never had it before, I think this is a good place to experience it.
Looking at inside, it looks like this used to be a conveyer belt sushi restaurant. But they converted it into a sushi bar. You order from a tablet, and they serve you the plates over the bar. The menu on the tablet has an English mode, 90% of the items are translated in English, but there are some that are only in Japanese. Nothing to be afraid of, there are pictures next to the Kanjis 😁. But we didnt order those, the non-translated items were items we were not interested in.
When we sat down, the waitress greated us and explained to us, in simple English, what to do and where to order. She didn't have to do that, we're in Japan, we should be the one speaking Japanese, but that demonstrated how much they care about delivering the best service to foreign customers. We were really positively surprised.
All in all, this a great and affordable place to get sushi in Hiroshima. I can only...
Read moreA lovely hidden gem that I could not recommend any more if you’re staying in Hiroshima. The entrance is a bit hard to find as it’s a side door that leads to a hallway and then elevator up to the restaurant, but there is signage on the outside of the building that should help you! The atmosphere is warm and very friendly as you sit around the main food preparation area getting to watch the chefs prepare your dishes. The staff were kind and very helpful, you order via an ipad on your table (has English language option) that displays the entire menu and even tells you which fish has been caught on the day. Everything we tried was delicious, but the salmon avocado rolls took the cake, the fish was fresh and not at all fish-y with the rice being a perfect texture. All the sushi is made to order right in front of you and done so exceptionally quickly. You’re able to order more as you go throughout the meal via the ipad, making it very easy to track what you’ve already tried and what price your bill is up to. We ordered an abundance of sushi, karaage chicken, sides and drinks and spent just over $50aud for two people which seemed like we had just ripped them off for how incredible and fresh everything was! They also had some of the best pickled ginger I’ve ever had, making each bite of sushi even...
Read moreFirst off, how to get there: there is an elevator to the second floor from street level. You have to go inside near the "Shaman Hair" place and around a corner to see it. The elevator itself is not visible from the road.
Now, the important part, the food! The sushi and the rolls were fresh and delicious. The food arrived quickly after ordering. There was a good variety of options ranging from the usual (salmon, tuna) to the more... interesting (sea snail). All of the options were relatively traditional/tame. In other words, if you are looking for a "Las Vegas" roll that has cream cheese, avocado, and is deep fried, you will not find it here.
The menu, on an iPad, had an English option but, strangely, it only translated roughly 2/3 of the options. The rest were still in Japanese which left you wondering what you might be ordering. For the price of each plate you should expect to pay at least $20 (American) per person to feel full but will probably end up...
