Cafe Zadan — Restaurant in Ikaruga

When we pass this shop by bicycles on our way to Horyuji, this old house coffee soup and its sign “Home roasted coffee” caught our attention and after exploring the temple we came back here for a cup of coffee and some rest. And it turned out to be a beautiful place! It’s an old tradition house just at the temple and it offers a large variety of single origin coffees, a couple of cake types, and some simple but delicious food for lunch (we got dry curry and ginger pork which were more expectations). Prices very reasonable, and after you buy coffee you can get one more cup of coffee for only 200 yen. We also bought coffee beans (home blend with a picture of a cat on the pack - it is somehow helps stray cats of the area) and some chocolates which are really tasty. The stuff is incredibly friendly and we had a great pleasure discussing the temple with her (it turned out that she occasionally works as a tour guide at the Horyuji temple). An old Japanese style house converted into a cafe.

It was a welcome break after walking under hot summer day.

I ordered the Zadan Shaved Ice which has ice cream, cookies , azuki beans and 白玉(don't know the English name ). The spoon is shaped like a shovel so it feels like you are digging treasures 😊.

モーニングの時間帯に来店、古民家リノベーションの店内は 外観からは思えない程の広さがあり、席どうしが離れて広々と心地良い空間。入店直後のアルコール消毒や、窓も開け放されており、感染予防対策に気をつけている印象。

コーヒーは 種類が豊富な上、苦味やコクや酸味等が分かりやすいメニュー表。だが モーニングのセットの種類は少な目。

甘く無いセットはバタートーストのみで、それ以外は小倉やメープルシロップ等のセット。 甘い物はあまり好きな方では無いが 見た事の無い組み合わせに惹かれた「メープルチーズトースト」と グアテマラコーヒーを注文。

コーヒーの味は素晴らしく ブラックでも十分美味しい。口を付ける前に頼んだ追加のミルクは要らなかったが わざわざ持ってきてもらった物だったので 申し訳ないから半分飲んでから2個とも入れる。もとよりコーヒーの味がしっかりとしていたので ミルクの味は邪魔にならず それもそれで美味しかった。

甘塩っぱい「メープルチーズトースト」は ブラックペッパー掛けて食べる。 何とも言えない甘塩っぱさがクセになり美味しかった。

愛想の良い店員さんも 雰囲気も コーヒーも大満足
