Kurume ramen Mitsuya — Restaurant in Imabari

English tourists visiting Imabari having ridden the Shimanami Expressway that day and in desperate need of a delicious meal.

I cannot claim to be any sort of a ramen expert, but I am greedy, and these ramen pushed all of my buttons.

The shop is simple with a few tables and a single long counter with the exposed kitchen behind.

The staff were friendly and, helpfully for us, spoke English and had an English menu. My gf had the standard pork ramen, while I went for the roast pork ramen. Both were excellent! A very rich, delicious, almost viscous broth - nice fresh noodles (you can see them handling the fresh noodles in the kitchen), lovely - very thinly sliced, melting (and blowtorched in my case) slices of pork and lovely accompaniments (spring onion, garlic, seaweed etc - and a good set of condiments on the bench (pickled garlic, hot sauce, chilli oil, egg etc).

This place is so good. Went here for dinner after finishing the Shimanami Kaido bike ride and was starving. I had the seaweed ramen which was so filling and delicious. They had a couple vegetarian options on the menu which was great. Fun easy atmosphere and great service. English menu ordered through a QR code....

豚骨の臭いはするけど、豚骨の味は感じない不思議なラーメン。

駐車場は縦列駐車含めて10台ぐらい。お昼時は並ぶみたいです。平日の13時過ぎに訪問。並ばずに入れました。

入口入って2枚目のドア(店内側)とトイレのドアは半自動で勝手に閉まります。小さなお子様や高齢の方と一緒の時は気を付けてください。先に入って手を離すと後ろで挟まれます。

店内入って右側に上がり座敷が3テーブル、厨房を囲んでL字カウンターが20席ぐらい。注文はQRコードから自分のスマホで。高齢の方などは口頭で店員さんに直接注文できます。スマホで注文しても無反応なので、ちゃんと注文できたか心配になります。

驚くのは提供の遅さ。提供待ちは私を含めて3人。先に入った2人組は違うラーメンを注文。先に1人のラーメンが提供され、その後にもう1人のラーメンを作り始める。しばらく待っていたが待ちきれず食事を始めて食べ終わる頃にもう1人のラーメンが到着。そして、その後に私のラーメンを作り始める。

ラーメン作りへのこだわりか何かよくわからないけど、お昼時に並ぶのはお客さんが多いからじゃなくて、ちまちま作って提供が遅いからかな。作るのに時間かかるから、「カタ」で注文してもヤワヤワの麺が届きます。替え玉を先に提供するという文化は無いみたいで、替え玉注文してもスープが冷めた頃に届きます。替え玉は店員さんにドンブリに直接ドボンされます。店員の接客が良ければ気にならないのですが、接客が低レベルなので、なんとなく嫌な感じがしてしまいます。

ゆで卵は半分ではなく薄くて、チャーシューも薄い。餃子は普通。麺量少ないから、ラーメン・おにぎり・餃子食べても軽く替え玉できる。ラーメンは特別まずいわけではない。しかし、この値段と待ち時間と接客レベルではまた行こうとは思わない。安くて、待ち時間なく、接客...
