Quaint Restaurant with Friendly Owner and Unique Dishes We reserved a table at Restaurant Bar Nagisa on the same day, and although the owner was initially hesitant, he kindly accommodated us. The restaurant is small but full of character, and the owner made the experience memorable by engaging us in conversation, sharing stories about his travels, and even giving us a signed postcard. He spoke a bit of Chinese and invited us to join his Facebook group for Hong Kong guests, adding a personal touch to the visit. As for the food, many of the signature dishes required advance reservations, so we could only try the abalone rice, sea cucumber rice, and whale rice. The first two dishes tasted a bit heavy on MSG and weren’t particularly special, but trying whale meat for the first time was definitely a unique experience. The whale had a somewhat fruity flavor with an interesting texture. I found the whale fat more enjoyable than the meat, which had a slight taste of blood. Overall, this is a charming place with a welcoming atmosphere and some unusual dishes. While not every dish wowed me, the experience and the owner's hospitality made it worth the visit.

A business run by a sweet couple. It’s as if you’re transported into the home of a friend in Ine where they prepare the catch of the season with love and thoughtfulness into the food presented. The owner Alex and his wife live their life here in Ine and are more than happy to recommend places to visit and things to do on the island. Alex converse verse very well in English and I overheard him speaking in Mandarin to the guests at the next seat. The menu is limited as with many other restaurants in Ine but one can trust that they will recommend what’s best on the menu at the time one’s there. Like at a chef table where chef makes the call on what you eat, or a friend’s kitchen where they whipped up dishes to make you feel at home - this is such a place. Come for the experience and conversation with the owners. I had a great time here albeit short.

Came to this restaurant because it was very famous! We didn't know that we had to book a week in advance, but Alex still let us in after I emailed him a day before. We got two bowls of sea cucumber and two bowls of dried abalone porridge! They tasted amazing, I can taste the fragrance of the seafood and the time that has been put into them. We also bought 2 bottles of skincare essence that was extracted from sea cucumber. Alex gave us very good price for everything, both the food and the skincare products! Alex was an amazing host. Because it was Nagisa's 10th anniversary, we even got extra gifts like postcards, an お守り, and a soap bar made of sea cucumber! Congratulations on 10 year anniversary!

Love this place, we made reservations and they gave us a table with Japan and Malaysia flag which was awesome. The bar had very authentic Japanese izakaya vibe of you watched Midnight Diner you'll know what I mean. Alex the owner had visited Malaysia several times and he even has Bak Kut Teh in the menu we regret we didn't try it but we tried the Simmered Tuna Bowl and Raw Minced Tuna mixed with Shoyu Marinated Tuna Bowl. Minced raw tuna was so fresh and the shoyu marinated tuna was to die for. Simmered Tuna is ideal for those who prefer cooked fish, it was just as good but Raw Tuna was definitely better.

My favorite part about Funaya! I emailed Alex ahead of time and he was able to accommodate my reservation. We tried the dried sea cucumber rice bowl which was incredibly savory and tender. The dried abalone porridge was comforting and flavorful. We had a chance to also try the whale sashimi which was a really unique experience. This definitely was one of the most unique places we tried in Japan! Highly recommend emailing Alex and making a reservation if you plan to visit Funaya!

I booked the table in advanced during New Year Holidays. Alex was so nice and provided us some quests during waiting the food cooked. Menus are not too much, he suggested his dish, but I chose what i wanted to eat. When the food served it smelled so good and tasty. I would recommend to choose 1 warm and 1 cold dishes. I saw many neg. comments here. I would say i saw it opposite, Alex has a good service mind and he spoke EN very well, clearly and easy to understand.
