Shuzenji Purin Shop — Restaurant in Izu

I visited in the early afternoon. The shop offers both eat-in and take-out options. I wanted to try Maritokko-chan, a cute chick-shaped maritozzo, but unfortunately it was sold out—apparently a very popular item. I was told it would be available again in about an hour, but since I didn’t have time to wait, I decided to skip it this time. Instead, I ordered the Classic and Salted Caramel flavors. Because I had a limited time before catching my express train, I took them to go and enjoyed them later. Both were rich yet perfectly balanced in sweetness—not too heavy, and absolutely delicious. Bought a matcha pudding and a rum one.

Matcha one was not good at all, coarse in texture and showcasing neither eggy or matcha goodness. Rum one, on the other hand, was much smoother and contains quite a bit of rum.

But generally they are quite pricey especially considering their size were smaller (the matcha container had a lot of not usable volume) than pudding elsewhere (like Takayama/Shizuoka).

They are very creative with purin flavours, this is our second visit, we tried the fruit jelly purin, it was delicious, but the original and matcha ones we had last time were definitely our favourite (so far, we also got mont blanc and rum raisin for takeaway, so really looking forward to try those).
