I am probably the only one to write review for this hotel in English so far.||||Shuzenji is a very nice onsen place to visit. Almost 3 hours drive from Tokyo, it is located in central Izu up on the mountain. One can either take the highway bus to the onsen area, or take the train to Shuzenji train station and change for taxi or bus to get to onsen area.||||There are quite a few onsen hotels around the area. There are a number of restaurants, shops and scenic spots on the onsen street / area. Soba, a kind of thin Japanese noodle mainly made of wheat, and black bun are the famous food in the area. Some shops only open from 11:00am to 3:00pm during which time there are many guests.||||I have read a recommendation from an onsen book which receommended Sora. I have stayed in another old onsen hotel in Shuzenji a few years back and decided to try Sora this time.||||It is kind of a mix of old and modern hotel. It is not a big hotel. The hotel entrance is located some 50 meters uphill. The lobby entrance is a modern design. Once you mentioned your name, you are led to the hotel room for check in. Inside the room, the staff will explain, in plain English, all the information, dinning time, bath location, etc. A snack (black bun) and tea is served. There is no Karaoke, noodle shop or game room in the hotel. Only a small souvenir shop in the lobby.||||All the rooms are either facing the mountain or the river. Mine is on the 4th floor, facing mountain, and a bridge in the garden. My room is spacious, 12 tatami + 6 tatami, plus toilet, basin and bath. The bath overlooks the garden through a window.||||I believe one of the onsen of the hotel received some prizes, because the outdoor onsen is illuminated on all the sides, which is quite unique in Japan. The onsen, though not very big, offered quite a few different onsen bath to guests and was quite enjoyable.||||Dinner and breakfast is served in the restaurant. The restaurant is famous for that it is kind of suspended in the air only supported by a few columns, giving a very simple and elegant taste and style. I found the food is of very high standard, though not very expensive one.||||The service level provided by Japanese hotel is usually very high. The reason I rated only with 3 stars is that it does not outstand the neighbouring hotels.||||Due to electricity shortage, visitors to Japan these days would have to bear the relatively high temperature...

We stayed two nights at Sora. One of the reason why we chose it is base on a very popular Japanese drama which broadcast during Winter 2016. It’s quite pricy but worth it. ||||Room: The room is a typical Japanese style but with a modern add-on. Spacious, very comfortable with a good view on the surrounding woods (our room is on the 5/F). In our room we also have a private onsen which is also facing the woods. The in-room onsen is very spacious and good enough to fit in two adult or two adults plus a kid. ||||Food: Dinner and breakfast is served in the restaurant. They are individual rooms in the restaurant and you will be leads into one, keeping your privacy. The food are super yum and they try to include local food (fish and or vegetables) into the menu. Very high standard and the portion are HUGE! They have a lot of dishes for dinner and they serve it one by one at the end it took us more 2 hours to complete the dinner. We were not able to finish all the food as it’s a lot. ||||Hotspring: There are two private outdoor onsens and our package include two visits so we were able to try both. You will need to book on the day to have a 45 mins session. The view is excellent so I would recommend to visit during day time. They also have public onsen too, both in door and out door are available. ||||Staff: Friendly and attentive. Okay English and some also able to speak okay mandarin. When we were out for dinner/breakfast, the hotel staff will help set up the bed or remove the bed. When you check it they also explain this part to you carefully and ask if you are okay with it. ||||Location: it’s only 5 mins walk to Shuzenji Temple so as other sight seeing spot at Shuzenji. Near by there are a number of restaurants and shops. One local fresh fruit shop is around 8 mins walk and a convenient shop is within 10 mins walk. Please note some shops only open from lunch to afternoon.||||Others: They have a souvenir shop next to the reception. Two lifts are available. Free parking is...

We liked everything. Our room had just spectacular view on the maples, large balcony, private onsen in the room with the same view. It’s just amazing. Room is fully equipped with the traditional tea set, several towels for onsen, traditional socks, complimentary mochi, traditional Japanese clothes. Everything to feel you the part of the culture. Dinner is invaluable part of our stay. We also had private room for the dinner. We tried plenty of dishes, our host told us everything about the ingredients and how to eat it properly. The environment, the village where the hotel is located is also very cosy, we walked through the bamboo street, outside the hotel we saw a beautiful Japanese garden. I truly recommend that hotel, it costs every dollar. Just sad that we were there just for one night. Thank you!

This is an excellent onsen resort. The room is in traditional Japanese style and it’s very spacious. There are two onsens and both of them are outdoor and they are big enough. The breakfast and dinner are in traditional Japanese style and they are delicious. Yet you have to spare like 1.5hour for each meal cause they will give you your food in several turns. They have a huge zen garden too and it’s also very photogenic.
