We agree with Vinny’s review; these are the best ribs that we have eaten in Japan and we have visited the country many times. We have lived in St. Louis and Kansas City, so we certainly know good BBQ!
Barchie’s Kamakura had delicious short ribs, a unique in-house chipotle sauce, and perfectly crisp rosemary French fries. We were pleasantly surprised by the house-made colas as well! I highly recommend trying one with your meal: the subtle and balanced flavors are very refreshing. (Sometimes house-made sodas can be too bitter or floral. But this was not the case at all and it was delicious!)
Another high recommendation we have is to order any of the desserts! We tried and enjoyed all of them, but my personal favorite was the “Whole Apple Pie”. (My mother-in-law thought it would be a “Whole pie” 😂 but I explained it’s a “Whole Apple” baked into a pie crust.) Served warm with vanilla ice cream, the flaky crust was perfect!
The atmosphere at Barchie’s is chill and comfortable- kind of a cool Californian vibe. A great place for a relaxed meal!
The staff were very kind and patient… I felt embarrassed because my preschooler was squirming and one of my family members sometimes appears annoyed, so I hope the staff were not stressed out by this, in addition to our poor Japanese language ability! They really were very accommodating.
I hope to return again...
Read moreWhile visiting Kamakura I randomly came across Barchie’s Kamakura BBQ restaurant. This is a cool little place about a 6-minute walk from Kamakura station and about 10-15-minute walk to Kamakura beach. There are no outdoor seats, but plenty of indoor seating including a high table, low tables and bar seating. On my visit I sat at the bar. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They offer a full bar with many mixed drinks, cocktails as well as a nice small selection of draft beers, one being a standard Japanese lager and 3 rotating craft beers. I ordered an American Style Brown ale that was quite enjoyable and served at a perfect cold temperature. The food selection was very nice and their specialty seems to be charcoal BBQ. I ordered a BBQ Chicken wrap that was fresh and delicious. The Entrée included a cup of corn soup and French fries on the side. Food portions were a touch on the small side but they do have an option to increase the fries for 150 yen. The interior space is nicely decorated with cool signs as well as some branded merchandise that is for sale. Dining alone or Groups of 2-4 people this place is great, anything larger and the space is a little tight. Over all Barchie’s Kamakura BBQ was a good experience and I will be back to...
Read moreThis place is so good that they just open a second spot in kamakura!! Both have a different menu, but quality is top!!
This Barchie’s has a small menu, but it’s like that for a reason: it’s all done with great quality and flavor.
Price? Well, Kamakura is not cheap, so the prices are higher than other areas. However, you will pay for a great service and meal!
Beer 🍺 it’s a must on this place ! Great beer - locally crafted- excellent flavor. You don’t see this often in Japan around this area, so please try their beer.
Place: it’s a small, and is popular. So you better make it on time or be patient to wait for a table. If you are waiting outside, order a beer while you wait.
Families: I don’t think is a family place. However, I did took my kids and they enjoyed it… but my kids eat anything and we no longer have strollers, so it works.
The closing deal : their icecream 🍦!! 😱 that was by far one of the best icecreams my entire family had in Japan. We had the raspberry vanilla icecream (which was provided by the restaurant) at the end of our...
