A Cozy Rainy-Day Delight
Tucked in a quiet corner of Kamakura, Garden House offers a peaceful retreat from the rain. The presentation of the food is simple yet elegant, with vibrant colors that invite you to slow down and savor the moment.
I ordered the buttermilk pancake with a sunny-side-up egg and crispy bacon — a classic combo elevated by thoughtful touches. The pancake was fluffy with a creamy texture, thanks to the butter, and just sweet enough with a drizzle of syrup. Honestly, it could hold its own even without it.
Pairing it with crispy bacon and a soft egg? No surprise there — it works, as always. But the unexpected twist of fresh tomato added a welcome burst of acidity, balancing the richness beautifully.
The latte was smooth and satisfying, though I wished it had arrived just a bit hotter to match the chilly drizzle outside. As for the karaage side dish? Hands down the highlight — incredibly crispy and savory, with that perfect Japanese finesse for fried chicken.
The ambiance sealed the deal. Nestled in a garden setting, the restaurant gives you a choice between cozy indoor seating and breezy outdoor tables. On a rainy day like mine, the experience felt serene and memorable.
Would I return? Definitely. This spot blends comfort and creativity with just enough of a rustic twist to make it special. For in-depth review follow me on Facebook, TikTok and...
Read moreOver priced tourist trap. The menu online doesn't reflect the over priced food that is on the menu you get at the restaurant. The steak I ordered, which was over 5,500 yen, came out with gristle and was tough to cut through with the dull, serrated knife they gave me and they couldn't make an old fashioned to order. Only made drinks specifically on the menu. Sat next to other foreigners who were loud and a blonde woman with a loud, incredibly annoying laugh--gaijin that don't know how to dine in Japan. This place was good before covid--a good menu and reasonable prices. There were Japanese in here but they had to be tourists from other parts of Japan--a local wouldn't dine here. So I spent $58 US for a steak that was comparable to eating at Denny's in the US, a pizza and a glass of white wine. This place is done, definitely gone downhill...
Read moreGarden House Kamakura is a nice place to grab brunch, lunch, or dinner. The location is a bit difficult, as on Google Maps it looks as if the entrance is on an inner street, whereas it’s actually on the main thoroughfare.
The atmosphere was nice, although the front entrance could have used some better umbrella control.
The wait staff were quick and efficient, maybe a bit overworked due to the number of people coming through; the kitchen put out meals quickly and with good taste — presentation remained strong and didn’t lack due to lunch rush.
The only sad parts were squalling babies and not as much bread as I’d hoped for in my appetizer.
Overall, the food was great, looked great, and my experience was pleasant. I do recommend it if you are near...
