RURU KAMAKURA — Restaurant in Kamakura

I came here because of all the Instagram and TikToks pages. The coffee shop just had 2 people seating. No one else was inside nor in line outside. There were other -I think 8-10- places to sit. I was with my boyfriend that didn’t want to drink anything and I asked if I could order and he could just sit with me, and not wait outside like a dog. I translated this to the two waitresses twice, they seemed to understand nothing, and they started to talk by themselves. I felt unwanted so I left and they did nothing to stop me. I didn’t want to order to take away because I would have loved to drink it in a proper cup, as it seemed special. I find it absurd that in a touristic town like Kamakura there is a shift in a shop when no one speaks English, and I find it even more absurd that a couple is obliged to order for each person, even if one doesn’t want nothing because he simply doesn’t feel like it. Dont be fooled by all the pretty flowers pictures .The place is small its one table with water . you can see the person in front of you.its not romantic nor relaxing.there was no flowers no decor nothing special. Nothing more than a hype and tourist trap .You don t need to pay that much for good matcha .The atmosphere was a HUGE let down. Very boring and flat.Absolutely zero effort was put to make it look remotely nice. Dont listen to those so called " influencers" trying to down at mom and pop restaurent/ cafe much cheapper. They dont speak english even in this highly touristic place . You are forced to order food with your drinks not just drink its a ridiculous system and anyone coming in is forced to order .be aware ...poorly run business . Amaaazing atmosphere - especially on a sunny day like when I went. The water table was something so unique to me at the time I went (January 2024), and the presentation of the desserts went very well with it. For those wondering, the rocks on the table are set and don't move, so you can comfortably move your tray around to take videos if you want to.

You order at the counter and take a seat, and the staff will bring your order to you. My favorite part is that they pour the matcha or drink of your choice in front of you - another opportunity to take photos and videos!
