I walked out of my APA hotel in central Katamachi and it took about 8 minutes, very pleasant walk into the old housing neighborhood of cultural Kanazawa city, up a hill on the back side of the hustle and bustle of party central Katamachi. It’s in a small alley and slightly hard to find as it is in the first floor of what looks like a normal apartment or a small company building. Hence their name, “kakure” which means hidden and “zato” hometown😉 I saw the sign outside though☺️
Entering the coffee shop you will see the barista at the counter taking your order and also making your specialty coffees. Don’t be intimidated by how handsome he is!! His wife (?) is also busy running back and forth, what a power couple she is also so gorgeous!! By the register, there are plates of meat pies which are made in-house and I had to get one of course!!
I ordered a cappuccino with an extra shot, and it was so delicious especially how much I love the foam. Very good for ig😆 With it, I enjoyed the meat pie 🥧 which was soooooo fluffy. I think one of the reviewers said flaky AF and it was indeed FLAKY AF. The pastry was just how I liked it, layers and layers x10 of fluffiness☺️
There are locally made brands on display on consignment on the shelving: jewelry, hat, shawls, and home goods like mugs, coasters and plates. I would’ve gotten the coasters if my luggage wasn’t already overweight by 8kg coming into Japan. They will serve your coffee in the same coaster so be sure to check it out. Some volcanic stone.
The seating is a bit limited but it is a moderately spacious shop. It’s just that it’s more group-friendly and if you come solo, you might have to share the large table.
Def coming back for more...
Read moreI found this cafe while looking on google maps for something opened in my area. I was nicely surprised, everything was very good from sweet pie (french galette with different fillings) to coffee, the atmosphere was also calm and cosy, the owners are nice, the tableware is pretty. The meat pies were sold out (around 1:30 pm), i took blueberry-pistachio pie and it was great, these sweet pies are from my home country so i tried many and this one had a great texture and the filling was a great combination. The prices are good for this type of cafe and area (1000 yen for coffee+cake i think this is a good deal considering the quality and proximity with the castle) there are also a majority of japanese people among the customers. I definitely...
Read moreA small café tucked away on a street not far from the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, offering what might just be the best tarts you'll ever taste. Delicately crafted with perfectly balanced flavors, they are an absolute delight. Their drinks are equally excellent, warming you on chilly autumn days and leaving a gentle hint of cinnamon that evokes cozy afternoons by the fire during the holiday season. The owners are incredibly kind and will fill your heart with warmth. The atmosphere is calm and soothing, making it the perfect...
