Amazing find. Three in our group need to eat strictly gluten free because they have celiac disease, and we had pretty much accepted that that meant we wouldn't be able to leave the hotel because there aren't many great gluten free options available in Kanazawa. But luckily a Google search revealed that fellow gluten free travelers had successfully been to this place before. so we gave it a try.
It was impossible to get a reservation online (this place gets booked way in advance) but when we asked in the afternoon they were able to give us counter seats later that evening.
The menus are all in Japanese and do not indicate any allergens. Fortunately the staff was very helpful and steered us toward the right dishes. They use gas rather than charcoal which was a bit disappointing and the vent above our grill didn't seem to work very well but otherwise it's a good set up. Lots of salarymen having a few beers at the end of the day so you know it's good when it's got only locals in there. Look for the highly gendered language regarding their set menu options (the Japanese version is worse than the...
