During my recent stay at ANA Crown Plaza Kanazawa, I was pleasantly surprised by the impeccable balance of warm hospitality and professional service. The front desk staff were notably polite, with a readiness that suggested thorough training, though their youthful appearance hinted at a predominantly novice team. This observation sparked a curiosity about the possible high turnover rates – could the intensity of hotel operations be too overwhelming for the newcomers?
Amidst the hustle of morning routines, the breakfast venue stood out as a culinary highlight. The food was superb, offering an array of both Western and traditional Japanese dishes that were both a visual and gastronomic delight. However, the popularity of the breakfast service also meant that it was often crowded, particularly early in the morning. Interestingly, I found that arriving around 9 AM offered a more tranquil atmosphere, which led me to ponder whether this aligns with a typical early riser pattern in Japanese culture.
The most heartening aspect of my experience was witnessing the dedication of a particular female staff member in the breakfast area. Her efficiency and friendliness were exemplary, yet it was evident that she was managing the breakfast rush almost single-handedly. This raised concerns about her workload, as her efforts, while commendable, also highlighted the potential for overburdening employees in such a demanding setting.
In conclusion, ANA Crown Plaza Kanazawa masterfully blends traditional Japanese hospitality with modern comfort. The staff, from the front desk to the dining areas, contribute immensely to this experience, even as the hotel could perhaps better distribute responsibilities to prevent employee burnout. For those planning a visit, I recommend a leisurely breakfast post the early rush for a truly enjoyable start to the day.
Read moreWe chose CP Kanazawa mostly because of its proximity to the train station and bus terminal (1-min walk for buses, 2-min for Shinkansen and 3-min for JR). When we booked the hotel, we were a bit concerned about the situation of the room after reading some reviews online. Fortunately, none of them turned on to be real.
Check-in was speedy and we were offered room upgrade and bottled water for being IHG Platinum. One of the staff escorted us to the room and made sure it was up to our expectation. I was pleasantly surprised that our luggage, sent the day prior from NRT, is already in the room.
The room (superior twin on the top floor) itself was large by Japanese standard, and had a large window overlooking the east side of the train station. The beds were comfortable and they offered several kinds of different pillow options (part of Sleep Advantage).
Our main concern, the bathroom being dated and unclean, turned out to be mostly untrue. The bathroom did look a bit dated comparing to the other part of the room, and the Toto bidet was a really old model. However, the bathroom looked a lot nicer than the pictures on the Internet. It was also spotlessly clean. Most of the amenities were made in Japan, which is a plus.
Being a business hotel, CP Kanazawa definitely lives up to it. Our room had 12 usable (excluding those used by appliances) power outlets with 5 additional USB sockets. The Internet was blazing fast. However the Internet was unencrypted, so I opted for tethering instead.
The bar at the top floor had an intimate atmosphere, the staff was courteous, but the night view was only OK (Kanazawa being a small city). We didn't try the restaurants in the hotel, as there were a lot of food options nearby.
My only (and minor) complains are the dated bathroom, unsecured Wi-Fi and that the tap water (even boiled) tasted funny. Generally, CP Kanazawa greatly exceeded my expectation of a Crowne Plaza property. I would highly recommend it for trips to the...
Read moreThis was almost a trip ruiner. I was on a business trip/vacation with family and when we picked the highs and lows of our trip - we all said the low was staying at the Crown Plaza in Kanazawa. This hotel is in desperate need of a major overhaul. We were initially put in rooms that looked like they hadn’t been updated since 1958. There was even carpeting in our bathroom which seemed odd. Everything reeked of mildew and it all felt damp. My sister’s room was equally bad if not worse. Carpet was stained, wallpaper peeling and stained, bathroom fixtures were corroded and we dreaded having to go back to our rooms at night. We asked to have our rooms changed and were put in “renovated” rooms. These rooms were a bit better but not enough that I’d ever want to stay here again. To be fair, the staff could not have been nicer, none of this was their fault, obviously and the breakfast buffet was perfectly fine. This is a great location at the train station and seems like they host a lot of conferences. What an opportunity to shine with a major major re-do. I almost never write a review that is unfavorable unless it is really egregious. The only thing worse than the stay was charging $178 per night for this. The heat was pretty bad when we were in Kanazawa so it would have been nice to be able to go back to the hotel room and cool off and relax. We wanted to spend as little time as possible in that room and we all breathed a sigh of relief upon checking out. If you are there on business and don’t really care - then, sure it seems adequate. If you are there on vacation and DO care about your accommodations, then...
