Brasserie chouette — Restaurant in Karuizawa

Underrated hidden gem. Two of us had two cheaper dinner set meal for the night which include an appetiser, a soup, a main and a dessert. The whole set was really out of our expectations as we just randomly hopped into a restaurant as all nearby restaurants were closed.

For appetiser, the Chef’s recommendation appetiser which was made with crab meat and puff was really nice. The french foie gras with apple was really nice as well in terms of both the portion and the rich flavour. First time tried an appetiser with more foie gras than apple to be honest.

The fish soup was outstanding. The slightly sour flavour was able to get us ready for the main and was a great signature soup of the restaurant.

For the mains, we have ordered a fillet with red wine sauce and a lemon butter chicken. I would say the chef was really good in making his sauces for difference dishes. The fillet I had was not the best in town but the sauce brought out the flavour and improved it to another level. The chicken was totally out of our expectations as well as it was really tendered and juicy. The lemon butter sauce really matched the chicken too.

Have to say we have added this as one of our favourites in Karuizawa. Classic Bistro fare in a casual yet intimate environment. Appreciate the unpretentious atmosphere particularly after a day on the slopes Good solid cooking, The food is the star here. The Chef worked in Paris for 6 years and we really felt transported back to a Bistro in Canal St Martin or Montmarte. Offering course menu from ¥4980 and a la carte. 入店してから全ての料理が出るまで2時間以上かかりました。休日のディナーで利用される方はご注意ください。

利用したのはゴールデンウィークのディナータイム。 休日は特に混雑すると口コミを見て事前に電話予約をして向かったところ、店前には予約で満席との札が掛かっていました。 席についてすぐにAコースを注文し、待つこと10分ほどで前菜が出てきました。 ここまでは良かったのですが、その後のスープに数十分、メインは30分以上は待ったと思います。更にデザートも20分ほどかかり、その前に出されたコーヒーは既に冷めてしまっていました。 どうしてこんなに時間が掛かるのか？と観察していましたが、どうやら複数のお客さんがいる場合、入店時間は関係なく、同じ料理を同じタイミングでしか作らないようです。 実際、我々より数十分遅く入店したテーブルにも我々と同じタイミングでメインやデザートが出されていました。 せめてお店側から混雑してるので給仕に時間が掛かる旨の一言があればよかったのですが、食前にも食中にもなく、最後に「今日は三世代の家族連れの団体さんがいるので遅くなってすみません」という、お客が沢山いて捌けません！とも捉えられる無責任な発言でガッカリしてしまいました。 厨房がシェフおひとりなのは承知していましたが、この観光地で何年も経営されているのでしたらディナータイムに受け入れ可能な客数の限界が分からないものでしょうか？ どのお客さんも「料理遅いね/まだかな」と口にされ、お店に気を遣いながら、決して満足してない顔で退店されていたのが印象的でした。 また女性の店員さんの接客対応は丁寧なのではなく、覚えたセリフを丁寧語で機械的に話しているからそう聞こえるだけです。 また手伝いされているご家族の方でしょうか、エプロンもせずに私服で配膳させるなんてここは街の定食屋さんですか？とツッコミを入れたくなります。

料理に関しては、メインに添えられるバゲットがカチカチで固くてボソボソしてたこと以外は文句のつけようがない位美味しくて満足ですが、それを打ち消すほどのホスピタリティの無さに落胆させられたお店でした。 フランスで修行されたようですが、現地のビストロはこんなに提供に時間はかかりませんよ。

最後に駐車スペースですが、店舗横の貸駐車場に入ってそこのスタッフさんに店名を告げると案内してくれます。
