I am actually not a fan of shaved ice, but I often eat the kids left overs! Today, I was buying my kids the shaved ice and took a spoonful to taste and I couldn't put the spoon down. Hands down the best shaved ice (Kakigori in Japanese) I've ever tasted. The kids also said the same; its the best they've ever had. I had wanted to bring the kids here since it opened earlier in the year, but I wasn't prepared to get in the queues that were daily over the summer. Today because it was a school day and Autumn there was no queue and we got a nice seat inside. As we were coming out a group of high school students came along and it wasn't long until there was a queue. Inside is quite small. There are 12 different flavours, 1 of which is seasonal and changes frequently. Currently it is a chocolate autumn flavour. We all had the strawberry cream flavour. Mango is supposedly the most popular. They aren't cheap, 2.5 times the usual price of kakigori, but they are well worth the money. And they are larger than normal and you get sauce on the side so you can add extra. You can also pay for additional toppings. You pay the bill up front, even if you...
Read moreThis cafe proudly exclaims "KORE GA KAKIGORI" and with good reason: very high quality ice, unique and impactful flavors, and a cozy inviting cafe space. We've visited this cafe prior to their relocation, and I'm happy to report that they still produce the same high quality kakigori that we've come to love.
We had the Mango flavor, Strawberry flavor, and a coffee. Both the Mango and Strawberry came with huge chunks of fresh fruit, but the mango flavor in particular had an intensely sweet Ataulfo mango-like sweetness.
There's hot and cold water for self serve, and the Cafe seats about 18-20 people with booths that can comfortably seat 4, tables that can sit 2, and a window/bar seating for about 6.
There was an older couple close to us that got Hojicha and Macha flavor, and those also looked absolutely delicious.
One minor issue we had was that one of our phones had trouble loading the menu (we were using e-sims, on Android). We were able to load the qr code menu on one of our devices, and the staff seemed friendly...
Read moreThey have the best kakigori (shaved ice) in the town of Kawagoe. We made a booking in advance and waited for 10 minutes. There were so many flavours including unusual ones such as tiramisu, sake, sweet potato and pistachio in addition to the ordinary ones. We ordered one hojicha (roasted green tea) shaved ice and one pistachio shaved ice. Tea and water was self-service but the tea tasted a bit weak. The size of the shaved ice was massive and the topping was very generous. The sauce, condensed milk, the toppings were so evenly distributed. There were many layers of the flavour and texture as you dive deeper. Very mind blowing and satisfying. Such a nice thing to eat after long walk in...
