I recently dined at Kobe Beef Kurosawa in Kobe, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the high expectations set by the restaurant's reputation for serving some of the best Kobe beef, our meal was far from exceptional.
Quality of the Beef: The star attraction, the Kobe beef, did not live up to the hype. While the presentation was certainly appealing, the meat itself lacked the anticipated melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich flavor that Kobe beef is famous for. The marbling, which should be a hallmark of true Kobe, was not as pronounced as expected, and the taste was underwhelming compared to other Kobe beef experiences I've had elsewhere.
Service: The service was simply mediocre. there was a noticeable lack of warmth or enthusiasm in explaining the menu or the unique qualities of the Kobe beef.
Atmosphere: The ambiance of Kobe Beef Kurosawa was a bit off as well. The restaurant felt overly crowded, with tables packed too closely together, creating a noisy environment that didn't complement the luxury dining experience one would expect. The decor, while aiming for elegance, felt somewhat dated and lacked the personal touch that could elevate the dining experience.
Value for Money: Given the cost of the meal, the value was not there. For the price we paid, the meal should have been a standout, memorable experience. However, it felt more like a standard steak dinner without the exceptional qualities that justify the premium price of Kobe beef.
Conclusion: Overall, my visit to Kobe Beef Kurosawa was extremely disappointing. The beef, the service, and the atmosphere did not meet the high standards associated with Kobe beef dining. If you're in Kobe looking for the quintessential Kobe beef experience, I would suggest looking elsewhere for a more authentic and satisfying meal.
Caution: the final picture explains everything. It...

There is a rice set that allows you to get a serving of Kobe beef piled on top of rice, paired with yummy miso soup, steak sauce, salt, a sweet sauce and a salad. It's so amazingly delicious especially for it's price (~4000¥), and I liked how chewy the beef was. Furthermore the Kobe beef was cooked nicely and I really enjoyed my last meal in Japan.
The set also came with a small side that is a Kobe beef (torched to medium-rare I think) put on top of a spoonful of rice. Mouth-watering.
Be sure to reserve a seat days in advance. This place was so popular that restaurant was full when we first arrived. At first, we were caught off-guard by the need to book a reservation when the waitress asked us if we had one. I thought we would get turned away, but she instead told us to wait until 7pm, It was 6pm when we visited. Sure enough, we were seated at around 7. The commitment from the staff to serve my family was a quality I really appreciated, and especially in Japan.
This was our last restaurant in our trip to Japan because we wanted to eat some high-quality and sumptuous beef to end off our trip. Of all the restaurants that we were searching for, this was one of the affordable ones and they did not disappoint. Thank you waitress.
I could tell that the staff were quite stressed, as the waitress was constantly running around the place serving food and making payments. In fact, when we asked to be seated, she took a while to come to us because she had to tend to another customer. Of course, no hard feelings, she tried her best to give us good service as a solo worker.
When I come back to Osaka, guaranteed I will eat at this...
Read more100% legit A5 Kobe Beef (not just Wagyu, there's a difference!), prepared by the highly awarded Chef Kurosawa. You can actually see the many trophies and recognitions he's earned displayed on the wall. If you’re looking to try Kobe beef in Kobe, you honestly can’t go wrong with this place!! This is the real deal.
I’ve had Kobe beef in Tokyo before, but being in Kobe for the first time, I had to try it here and this restaurant delivered. 4 stars for atmosphere because it honestly is not as stylish as a high-end restaurant, but that's not what's important. The beef quality was outstanding, the prices were very reasonable for what you get, and the entire experience from presentation to the warm, attentive service, even down to the thoughtful souvenirs at the end, was really memorable.
I recommend getting the ¥5,000 Tender Beef option or the next one up. I think those really capture the flavor and texture Kobe beef is known for. Every bite was such a joy. They also provide a carefully written step-by-step guide on how to enjoy all the flavors of the meal which was such a kind gesture! It really completed the experience.
Huge thanks to the staff, Chef Suzue, for being so welcoming, happily taking photos for us, and making the whole experience feel special. It might seem like a small thing to be so excited about a meal, but I genuinely was really excited to try Kobe beef IN Kobe and I’m grateful that the staff shared that excitement with us....
