Pasta & Cafe Pepeolio — Restaurant in Kobe

Food was average, but we had a negative dining experience. They had a lunch special that was significantly cheaper, but the ham/bacon that was included was not to my liking, so I ordered the more expensive dish so I could eat what I wanted. My partner, native Japanese, explained this to our server because the server asked why we didn't want the cheaper option.

Surprise, the dish I was served had the bacon from the cheap dish. My partner asked the waitress if this was a mistake, and she said plainly that no, the picture is just wrong.

We ate and were of course charged for the more expensive item, we asked a different person (maybe the host, maybe the manager, not sure) and he gave a different explanation but ultimately said yeah sorry, the picture is wrong.

I think if customer service is central, you would charge for the lower dish, especially as I ordered the "pricier" version for that specific and explicit reason. They acknowledge that what is pictured is not what you are getting, but they insisted that the preparation was different for the sauce and somehow that justified the higher cost. Never going again, pasta and breads were average but this just won't do....

Am from Malaysia, maybe it just me being used to normal take out pizzas , but the pizza here crust is just right w the amount of char, and the pizza dough is still moist and soft, the toppings blend amazingly with all the different components. I will remember this meal for a long time for sure ! I've never had caper and anchovies on a pizza but the salty toppings mixed w the slightly acidic marinara sauce w the charred crust, just blends so perfectly together.
