T's BARISTA School & Coffee SHOP — Restaurant in Kumamoto

Cute local, female owned cafe and design shop. As the name suggests, they train up baristas. The coffee is one of the best in Kumamoto, and I prefer it to the local roastery cafe a few streets down (which is beautiful, in an old rice barn, and does great sweets, but the coffee here is less dark and more balanced). This place has a very relaxed, friendly, local neighbourhood vibe. I was walking by with my luggage to find my hotel, and glanced inside, curious about this cafe. One of the baristas caught my eye, smiled brightly and waved at me, inviting me inside. Even for Kyushu this was super friendly (later turned out she was from Okinawa and somehow I can see that!) - I was surprised and went straight in, luggage and all. I spent an hour chatting and laughing with the three baristas, had great coffee and checked out the nice designs that the owner/designer makes. The only down side? Opening times are a bit variable, like so many places in Japan. During our first visit here, T's Barista was closed for customers (probably for a class), luckily we dropped by again on another day around 4PM and they were open for to-go/take-out orders.

Nico Coffee - iced orange cinnamon latte. This was really good, not to sweet, balanced, refreshing. Can't stop gushing about it, highly recommend this!
