ANA Crowne Plaza Kumamoto New Sky by IHG — Hotel in Kumamoto

This hotel has no facilities such as gym or swimming pool. The room is spacious and has fairly good view. The toilet is relatively big and shower pressure is good. Room amenities are average with below average coffee packs, and the room design is awkward to accommodate another bed, hence reducing the space alot. No international TV channels, but seems to be the case for every Japanese hotels i visited... No bottled bath amenities. Room is too hot during the day and unable to change temp or fan speed of the central air-con, consequently this is the killer that is unacceptable for a high-class hotel (even the staff admits the room is hot and stuffy upon entering due to non existence air flow...), even though the staff is helpful and brought a portable fan into the room to make it slightly better. Overall, due to the last point, i do not recommend staying here. There seems to be many meeting rooms for business events in the hotel, but it is not suitable or focus on leisure customers... One minor good point is the establishment provides free shuttle to/from station, however, disappointed that was not informed until arrival at hotel and only when...

Do not stay in this hotel unless you do not mind it being extremely hot and stuffy... Can you believe it, the lobby and corridors are cooler than the room itself, this makes November feels like July! The service is fine, as the staff brought in a small portable fan for air circulation in the room, though it is insufficient. The excuse that the room A/C is centrally controlled and it is normal in Japan is really weak. I have travelled to Japan many times, and this is the first "International" hotel that I have been that has such lousy A/C... The fake A/C remote control with High/Low mode just does not work. Other than this critical issue: The location is average, a little distant from places of interest, but relatively near to Kumamoto train station, and they also provide free shuttle service to/from station. Room is spacious; No hotel facilities like Gym or pool; In room amenities are normal; Average in room coffee packs (no extras); No small bath amenities; No extra amenities...

Modern hotel, nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff (although English a little limited), shuttle bus service to JR station (also good location close to JR station) with wide range of choice for breakfast including a lot of local options. Would recommend for sure if you are in the area and I would stay again.

Just two tiny niggles with a small billing issue at check-out, although was resolved quckly and internet was a little slow at times (although hotel was especially busy when we were there).

The only other thing is I would also have expected a Crowne Plaza to have some kind of fitness centre at least (and maybe a pool). This one didn't. In addition, usually this kind of Crowne Plaza on the upper floor might have had a bar with a view - there were function rooms that were sometimes open for events but not for general guest use. Perhaps opening up some bar area at the top with the river view might be nice, as well as finding a space for a small...
