I have been here a few times over the years and always enjoyed the burgers although I think their prices are at the upper limit of what I would pay for a burger. I live in Okinawa and we have a ton of good burger places to choose from, so while I understand Kutchan is a very different market, Patty Daddy is charging a premium. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, but what brought me back this time is that they have begun brewing beer under the name BLACK FOX BEER 黒狐ビール.
So I came for the beer. The burger was good, I just finished a hike up Mt. Yotei and was famished. The burger was juicy, but even with a double patty it was small. We ordered the chili cheese fries which we were told were enough for 4-5 people - maybe 4-5 small children or customers with a small appetite, but I could have easily finished them all myself. The burger was 3/5 stars: juicy, but small and expensive.
Now for the beer, it was awful - not the worst I've ever had, but from the start it was clear that I was going to be disappointed. We waited more than 10 minutes for the beer to be brought to the table even though I specifically asked for it before the food. I started with their American IPA if I remember correctly, it did not taste like any IPA I've ever had. The color was wrong and it tasted more like a brown ale. It had some off flavors and a minor amount of diacetyl. The beer glasses had clearly been cleaned with something oily, probably the same sponge used to clean fry pans - to be clear, beer glasses need their own, dedicated sponge or cleaning cloth. After choking down the first beer I ordered the beer flight which consisted of a Pale Ale, Black IPA and a Saison (I think). All were not good. I do not understand why someone would invest so much money in brewing equipment, but not take the same amount of time and money to invest in growing their skill as a brewer. Charging craft beer prices for awful beer is just wrong. I really wanted to enjoy this beer and find a great new craft beer place, but this joins the long list of breweries to avoid in Japan. 1/5 stars for the beer. I recommend just grabbing a Sapporo Classic from across the street at...
Read moreReally disappointing - the dirtiest restaurant I've been to in Japan and food not good at all. Can only guess it has gone downhill since earlier reviews which were good. Restaurant had lots of uncleared but empty tables when we arrived and waited for one to be cleared - saw it was not wiped clean and it was really greasy. Saw the same thing with other tables and the next group that came in asked for a cloth to clean the table themselves! Two of the main burgers were sold out and my burger had a burnt bun, over cooked egg and was really greasy. My wife's wedges were very unevenly cooked. Left smelly as there is no extraction from the tiny kitchen. Really sad as it looked good online, but...
Read moreI love it here the daily salad is so good along with the burgers. I went with my family and we loved it. In the winter time it is a really nice escape from the snow and it has an amazing atmosphere. The people here speak a good amount of English. You have to try the side food they are too good to miss. The burgers are nice and juicy and not greasy. It was bursting with flavour and the sauce brought it all...
