Terrible and frustrating experience. Our hotel concierge arranged this when we asked for a Sukiyaki meal. It was cooked all wrong (confirmed with our concierge when we gave our feedback) and when we tried to speak with the staff, they insisted this is how sukiyaki is done.
They did not start off using the beef tallow to sear the pan, and our sukiyaki base was tasteless and veggies cooked to death. Not sure what we were supposed to do with the cube of fat at the end of the meal - they said we could just dump it into the soup if we felt like it…… ?????
Service was also all wrong from the beginning. No towels given, just the empty towel holder on our table. No bowls given when our veggies were already boiling to death and we were left wondering and confused.

Read moreYesterday, I went to Chiriri. The moment I stepped inside, I felt transported to traditional Japan. This location near the Imperial Palace was just as elegant as the Osaka branch, but in a different way, offering a unique charm that was perfect for a special evening. Our private tatami room was cozy and inviting, creating the ideal atmosphere for a memorable meal.
The shabu shabu was exceptional. The beef and pork melted in our mouths, and the fresh vegetables added a delightful flavor. I particularly enjoyed the rich sesame sauce that perfectly complemented the beef. The attentive service enhanced our dining experience.
My guests from New York were thrilled with the traditional setting and the authentic Japanese cuisine. Every detail, from the ambiance to the food, was thoughtfully curated to provide a genuine shabu...

This is the original Chiriri restaurant, and if you’re a hot pot fan visiting Kyoto, you definitely need to give this place a try.
We made our reservation a month in advance, thinking it would be packed, but it turned out to be fairly quiet. I suppose its location, a bit away from the busier areas, might be the reason people head to other spots. It’s situated right next to Kyotogyoen Park, which is perfect for a post-meal stroll.
I didn’t take many photos because I was too busy cooking and savoring the delicious food. If you’re in Kyoto, make sure to check...
