It's such a great restaurant. I am a foreigner, and i was lucky to have found this place. After leaving the Kyoto Zoo, my Fiance and I were looking for something to eat. As soon as you reach the entrance into this restaurant you can see it's a special place. Beautiful garden in the front, incredible build and design of the building, and of course the food. I ordered the Tempura, udon style, and can say it's one of the best bowls of hot noodles I've ever had. The shrimp and noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was delicious.
Not only that, but the staff was exceptional. They provided full english menus that were grammatically correct and offered a fork for my fiance who struggles with chopsticks. The servers were super friendly and attentive and the decor was really nice, although the atmosphere was a bit lacking - no music and we were the only guests, so all we could really hear were the servers talking among themselves.
That being said, the food itself was alright. Not bad, but nothing extraordinary. The presentation was good, but the taste itself was a bit bland - the broth could've been much more flavorful. Expected more out of the food and the value for the money paid, given we've had ramen full of flavors for about half the price.
That being said, given the experience from other reviewers, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe other dishes offer better...
