We lucked upon two hidden gems near our hotel in Kyoto. This was one of them. We made an online reservation two nights in advance after finding the place on a night time stroll. We had the 12 course (including coffee) degustation. The whole experience was unique. There was just the four of us- the couple running the show and us. Like a private dinner party. The menu was in English. Beyond that it was their moderate English and our dreadful Japanese both helped by Google translate. The meal was prepared with obvious love within close view. While it as all great we especially enjoyed the scallop and asparagus. The champagne by the glass was terrific. The red wine not as good as some. And somehow they’d got the music background next to perfect. I found that YouTube can be thanked for that :). While it couldn’t be classed as cheap we have had similar meals at “fancy” places for two or three times the price. If intimate dining with small courses prepared fresh and with love is your thing put Lien on your list. It was a superb experience. We feel blessed to have found it.
