MIZO — Restaurant in Kyoto

So happy I was able to find fine Italian dining in this area. Small place that only seats 12. The pictures tell most of the story. Fresh, quality vegetables, tasty sauces and deep flavors! I got a 4 course set, appetizers, pasta, main and desert. Pasta was absolutely great. Perfectly al'dente, flavorful meat sauce, poached egg with tons of cheese (!!) Also loved the roast pork, cooked perfect medium and the balsamico sauce was not what I expected (earthy sweet rather than vinegary sweet) and loved it! We were travelling from Australia and dined at Mizo in Kyoto tonight to have a break from Japanese food. The food was SO GOOD! The four diners in our party all really enjoyed the pasta dishes and the wine was great as was the service! The menu is only in Japanese but with the help of Google translate we were able to order what we wanted. The salad to share was fresh and the cheesecake and gelato icecream was superb. Excellent Italian food in a small cozy restaurant close to Nijo Castle. We had a salad and octopus carpaccio for starters, and for our main dishes, we chose spaghetti bolognese, and pasta with squid and bottarga. Everything was very delicious especially the pasta dishes. For dessert we had the chestnut tiramisu, which was exceptional.

It was difficult to decide which dishes to order because they had so many good things on the menu. We will certainly come back to this restaurant. The prices...
