かつての二条駅舎は、和風の屋根を乗せた城郭か社寺のような外観であった。近傍にある二条城の景観に配慮したものでした。歴史都市ならではのデザインは、建築家伊東忠太が手がけたものです。そもそもは田中源太郎らが経営した京都鉄道の本社を兼ね、豪華な内装があったことが偲ばれる貴賓室もあったらしい。 高架化に伴い、この懐かしくも、京都らしい駅舎を解体するという話がありまた。歴史的建造物の保全を求める議論がさかんになるなか、1990年にまず15メートル、300トンもある建物を2日かけて曳家を行い、工事中の仮駅舎として使用を継続することになる。さらに1996年になって、京都市指定有形文化財に指定を受けつつ、建物の幅を縮めつつ梅小路蒸気機関車館に移築されることになった。愛着のある駅舎が結果的に保存され、明治期の和風駅舎としては唯一の遺構として評価を受け、次世代に託されたのは幸いです。 私の子供の頃は、千本通にも倉庫が立ち並んでいました。今は暗渠になってますが三条通に沿って川があり、嵐山から丹波の木材を二条駅まで運んでました。有名な保津川下りももとは、材木を運ぶ筏です。二条駅の荷物の積み下ろしの沖中氏を仕切る任侠の千本組というのがありました。運送が鉄道からトラックへ移行し、二条駅の役割も低下しました。 The former Nijo station building looked like a castle or shrine with a Japanese-style roof. When I was a child, warehouses were lined up in Senbon Street. Although it is now a culvert, there is a river along Sanjo Dori, which carried wood from Arashiyama to Nijo Station.
