tardes/タルジス — Restaurant in Kyoto

We had sheer luck stumbling into tardes after a long afternoon of walking around sightseeing. Perfect experience!

The space is cozy and thoughtfully designed. We decided to enjoy some drinks first, and the white wine was great. We'd been craving mapo tofu, but it's very difficult to find vegetarian mapo in Kyoto. Thankfully, tardes has it, and the chef is skillful - you can tell he takes cooking seriously. We ate mapo along with spring rolls (very good) and a version of 파전 (Korean pah-jun) we hadn't seen before made with celery and really tasty seasoning. Add a couple more glasses of the wine...what a memorable meal!

Cosy wine bar that serves vegan dishes. We had a nice platter with a mix of small dishes to go with the wine, also tried the dessert and had some tea. Discovered Tardes after having lunch at another vegan restaurant and the owners were there eating as well. Very good vibe, and very cosy people...

one of the best restaurants have ever eaten at, in the world. from north america to europe to asia etc. ran by the most lovely couple. food outstanding, ambiance perfect. service, pairings, coursings all excellent. my wife and i went back to back nights and ate the entire menu....
