What a fantastic place to be able to choose to stay on our own first trip to Japan. The room was cozy and had a lot of space for us to be able to spread out. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. We had a view of a small garden that was just very peaceful and zen-like. We are worth within a 10 minute walk to the Keihen train to be able to get us places very easily. One of the biggest perks is that the owner is from Canada and speaks full English. That truly helped us to be able to determine where to go and what train lines and Subway Lines to get in to go places. Probably the two only complaints that I had from this place. Number one the owner does provide you a paper that you give to the cab driver to find the place, however, the cab driver still couldn't find the place. It is a little bit out of the way in the streets leading up to the in our very small and unless you know where you're going probably won't find the place normally. The second complaint was that all the doorways in the hotel room were 7ft, however, there was one doorway that was five and a half feet. I struck my head multiple times on that and it was difficult to remember especially in the middle of night when you get up to go to the bathroom. I wish there was either a light or at least some foam or something on that door way to protect your head, because it really hurt when you hit your head on that. Otherwise I would highly recommend staying here if you need somewhere to stay in the Kyoto area as I have no regrets despite those...
Read moreMy wife and I spent 3 nights at the Marikoji Inn and had a wonderful stay!||||Check-in - Quick and easy.||||The Room - We booked the Kinkakuji suite, which was set up for 4 people since that was the default with the website we booked, but the owner quickly put away the extra beddings. This room was more than enough space for the 2 of us and could comfortably fit 4. The room was quiet and clean with plenty of toiletries and towels. The zen garden was peaceful and soothing. The inn only has a few rooms and the walls are thin, which makes for a quiet and respectful environment. The shower pressure in our room was a little soft as compared to our norm, but this led us to draw hot baths, which is actually much more relaxing!||||Location - The owner gave us a local map of nearby shops and restaurants. It's a short walk to the train station and bus stops that will get you anywhere you need to be. Walking distance to plenty of good food and shops, and a few temples/shrines.||||Service - Outstanding! The owners went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and give us ideas of what to eat and where to go. My wife mentioned that she wanted to get her hair cut and the owner was kind enough to walk with us to a local salon to introduce us to the stylist and interpret the details of the haircut. We also mentioned that we were interested in visiting shrines and temples to collect omamori (amulets) and she suggested some nearby shrines and temples that we could visit.||||Definitely...
