early dictionary editors encountered immense difficulty in defining the word “perfect.” if they had visited Torihisa (founded in 1896 and thus older than the Oxford English Dictionary) they would not have had such a problem. the sukiyaki course was life-changing, and I say that having eaten sukiyaki quite religiously. the beef melts in your mouth (not an exaggeration), while the assorted vegetables and tofu were selected for their freshness, texture, and crunch. I have never had vegetables from which I could so easilynote the freshness. the yuba sashimi is delicious, and paired with freshly grated wasabi (emphasis on freshly grated), was heaven on earth. the tempura was fried to perfection. the shrimp was phenomenally juicy, while the vegetables were seasoned perfectly. the umeshu and beer selection were also phenomenal, with the service to match. this is, unequivocally, the best restaraunt I have ever been to in Kyoto and...

PLEASE AVOID! Totally a disappointing experience. Overpriced for the Quality: The food was not worth the high prices. The quality did not justify the cost, and it felt like they were taking advantage of their location to overcharge tourists. Forced Orders: Each person is required to order a full set meal, and sharing is strictly not allowed. This felt like forced consumption and left a bad impression. Cash Only Policy: We were shocked to find out after finishing our meal that the restaurant only accepts cash. There were no signs or warnings at the table or when we ordered. This lack of communication caused us to use up all our cash just to pay the bill.

Overall, the experience felt like a tourist trap. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone...

Followed Youtuber Tommy’s recommendation to be here. Was looking forward all month. Turned out to be the worst dinning experience I had in Japan. The lady who served our table was incompetent. She kept trying to do multiple stuffs at the same time but ended up achieving nothing. For example, as I was ordering my food. She would turn around as I was still speaking to help another customer. They come back just to start from beginning. She said one stove per table but I asked her why the two groups smaller than my party right next to me has two stoves, and she just walk away and come back. The whole meal took 3 hours mostly because they are slow. Food isn’t bad but super average for all the trouble I went...
