Tucked away just a short walk from the famous Yohashira Shrine, 'Nire no Ki' feels like a true hidden gem. It might take a little navigation to find it on your first visit, but the reward is a serene and peaceful atmosphere that sets it apart. The interior is small and cozy, with just seven counter seats and one small table, which only adds to its intimate charm. Keep in mind that this is a very small eatery run by a kind elderly woman who primarily caters to local regulars for lunch. As such, first-time visitors, whether Japanese or from overseas, might occasionally be turned away. The menu is delightfully simple: a daily set meal of grilled fish and side dishes for ¥850. Don't expect elaborate choices like tempura or sashimi here – this is authentic, delicious home-style Japanese cooking that locals enjoy every day. Unfortunately, English isn't spoken, and groups of three or more are not accepted. However, if you're lucky enough to get a seat, you're in for a treat: a truly delicious taste of everyday Japanese home cooking. While there's a chance you might be politely turned away depending on the day, if you're looking for a quiet spot to enjoy some solitary time and a truly genuine culinary experience, it's worth the effort to try! 【My rating criteria】 ★★★★★ I definitely want to visit again. ★★★★ I want to visit again. ★★★ Average ★★ I don't really want to visit again. ★ I never want to visit again.

Such a heartwarming experience! 💛 The food was truly delicious — simple, comforting, and full of homemade flavor. Everything here is cooked, served, and managed by one lovely grandmother, which makes the whole meal feel even more special. I ordered the lunch set, which changes daily and can’t be chosen — but that’s part of the charm. It feels like being served a home-cooked meal straight from her kitchen. Many locals were dining here too, and I could really feel the cozy, authentic atmosphere. It’s not a place for big groups since it’s run by just one person, but if you’re looking for warm, home-style Japanese food served with love, this little restaurant is absolutely perfect. 🍚✨

This is the true Japanese home cooked local establishment. Mama is the kindest person on earth. Her cooking is from the soul. I had the daily special and it was just like 'at home' back in 1970. I wish her good health. All the locals go here. Next time I'm trying the ochazuke.
