Matsumoto Timepiece Museum — Attraction in Matsumoto

The museum is abundant in mechanical clocks, but ironically time seems to have stopped with the invention of the quartz clock.

However, focusing on the artistry and the creativity of the clock makers, the museum has several surprising pieces that made me stare in awe and wonder.

Well worth the 30-60 minutes it takes to go through everything. Perfect if you have an extra hour to waste in Matsumoto.

Tio: I recommend going at the top of the hour so you can hear all the different clocks ring which lasts about 10...

This is a small but very charming museum for anyone interested in timepieces in general and the history of Japanese clocks in particular. Exhibits range from watches to very large clocks, with quite a few very distinctive and quirky examples. There is also a room of phonographs. I enjoyed this immensely - particularly the sound to ticking, because all the clocks seemed to be working....
